We stayed in Kanuma for two nights and found this little jewel of a B&B. The hosts are very considerate and sweet. They picked us up from the station and supplied us with all necessary information. Being there felt almost like a homestay. Breakfast was amazing and dinner also great. 
If you go to Nikko, consider staying at this B&B. You hardly will get any better value for money around this area and the distance is no problem at all.

Cute B&B with great value for money

Visited Kanuma for work and stayed here. This is a great little place! My room was impeccably clean, and cutely decorated. I had a futon and tatami room, and my friend stayed in a room with a bed. My room had a small fridge, table, aircon/heater, and veranda access. There is good, fast wifi, which is not a given in Japan! Yukino put on a super breakfast, vegetarian by request, with juice, homemade bread w/ butter and marmalade, scrambled eggs, sautéed veg, miso soup, and home-rolled sushi. I was very comfortable here and would absolutely recommend. Superb value for money.

Sweet little B&B

The ladies who own this b&b were very hospitable.  They picked us up from the train station and had loaner bicycles for getting around.  We ate dinner there for a reasonable price (I think 800 yen and we were very full)  and we had the free breakfast, it was extensive with yogurt, scrambled eggs, hot dogs, pastries, fruit, toast, salad- and drinks.
They have a manga loaner library, games and nice clean rooms.  
The town was out of the way and it is hard to find the B&B- you probably wouldn't find it on your own.
One of the best places we stayed in Japan.
