The Hagi Grand Hotel Tenku has a good location, in between Higashi-Hagi train station and the Hagi central bus station.  I stayed in Japanese-style accomodations which felt like a suite in terms of size and quality which is meant for two people.  In terms of its facilities and such, it appears to be a 4 star, maybe even 4.5 star, hotel.  

However, perhaps because it's in a part of Japan where non-Japanese visitors are still uncommon, the English language services leaves something to be desired and the staff felt less friendly than in many other parts of the country that I have been in.  
Also, because I worried that there would be few eateries open at breakfast and dinner time, I opted in advance to have a breakfast and dinner plan at the hotel.  

While breakfast (served buffet style) was totally satisfying, dinner was sadly less so.  On the positve side: they sure do give you a lot to eat.  Also, the cold dishes, including the sashimi, were pretty good.  However, the hot dishes were less enticing and the overall experience feels crazy rushed, with not only a whole bunch of food pre-laid out at one's assigned table but the servers bringing course after course to the table before you have finished with the majority already on there!

Good accomodation and buffet breakfast, but try to opt out of having dinner there if you can.

The hotel, although a bit far from the High speed bus station, offered free luggage reception and transfer to hotel from bus station information centre. Counter staff very polite and helpful. English, Mandarin staff available. The onsen, hot spring area quite spacious, however, the outside hot spring was too small. Breakfast was buffet style while dinner was in Japanese style. We were given a high rise room so that we could oversee a very view of the city. Worth to visit again.

Good location, very good dinner and reception.

We slept on a tatami in a very typical Japanese room. The room was big. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. They provided a lot of information about places to visit.

However, the hotel was outdated and could use some refreshing.

Nice hotel in small town

If looking for a typical onsen hotel, one would get disappointed here. For a hotel of this scale, the outdoor bath is tiny. If there are already 5 people, one would not want to squeeze in for it will then be too crowded. The food is very average and seemed like they serve the fugu fish, supposed to be a delicacy in Yamaguchi, from packaged food being sold in their “Miyage みやげ”.

A typical tourist hotel with a dated look

Good old grand onsen hotel, as you see a lot in Japan. Very popular with older Japanese people, but there were also a couple of groups of young  people.Our rooms were good, (after the staff agreed to change one of our our room which was next to the -noisy - elevator).The onsen is quite good. This hotel is quite expensive, this is why we didn't get meals. We paid the same price for meals and room in a more modern grand hotel near Matsue. Hagi was one of my favorite place in our trip, so I would recommend to choose another hotel if possible. Given the price of the rooms, we mistakenly thought the hotel bicycles were free....They charge for the day or by the hour...No wifi in rooms, only in the lobby

Good hotel, but overpriced for the service

We were upgraded to a beautiful room on the top floor (circular section) of the hotel. It was a Japanese-style room with huge windows and an incredible view of the city.

The building is old but everything felt very clean and well maintained. We used the onsen facilities several times - extremely relaxing.

Only minor complaint was checkout was 10am and couldn't allow even an extra hour later.
