Saitama Grand Hotel Fukaya

The hotel is just a couple of minutes walk from the station, and easily viewable across the main town square which is really handy when you're an English person in Japan and cannot speak a word of Japanese, nor read Kanji. I've stayed there twice: both times for business, and found the staff always helpful and polite. Both the western style and Japanese style breakfasts are good, though "interesting". Kind of nouveaux cuisine style but with more generous portions, but nothing that would make you feel bloated. I've stayed in single and double-bed rooms: whilst the single bed rooms are small they are well equipped with television, desk, tea-caddy and kettle, radio, alarm and en-suite shower and bath room. The double-bedroom was much more roomier and had a comfortable sofa and chair to relax in. The last time I was there the area experienced one of the greatest typhoons for fifty years. I shall always remember arriving back at the hotel, completely drenched, wading through standing water up past my ankles, to be met by a cheerful and smiling girl in the entrance handing out towels to everyone coming in - what a great touch!
