Perfect location close to Beppu Station. Rooms were a good size, very clean, great bathroom. The staff were wonderful.

Fantastic stay

Very good hotel. Close to railway station and very quite. Good local small eating houses within walking distance. Good views from 10flr restaurant. Very nice staff at checking and restaurant. Very clean rooms with appliances

RWC Trip

Central location close to train station and restaurants.  Room was small but reasonably comfortable.  Helpful staff.  Breakfast was not available in hotel on 2 of 4 nights we stayed.

Good base in Beppu

The hotel location is near to train station and close to mall and many shops
There is complimentary parking for those who drive.

The hotel breakfast on the 10th floor provides a good view of the surrounding.

As usual, rooms in Japan are small 
The beds are not comfortable for couples to sleep in
Even places for putting our 2 luggage are limited.

As we drove down from Fukuoka upon arrival and with sightseeing on the way, we did not sleep well even though we were tired.

Other than the small room and uncomfortable bed, we have no comment/complains about it.

Suggest you get a twin bed room for couple.

I had lunch with friend at the restaurant in Hotel Arthur which is on 10th Floor and it was so so good. Appetizer, soup, bread, main dish,  dessert and coffee. (It costs 1500+10% tax) Reasonable price compared to what we had. Everything tasted so good. We enjoyed our lunch there so much. Will go again for sure!!

Great lunch set!!

The first twin room given to us was next to the elevator and clearly was the smallest room in the hotel.  As soon as we saw the room, we asked for a larger room but the staff said there was none available for our first night.  After much discussion, the desk clerks let us upgrade, for an additional fee, to a larger room for our next three nights but we spent the first night in the tiny room.  There was so much furniture taking up so much floor space that it was almost impossible to find room to open one suitcase, let alone two.  It was nearly impossible for two people to move around the room at the same time.  Our second room, was a corner twin room and was very much larger than the other one.  There were two windows and the room had plenty of light.  The wired internet in the room worked just fine.  I think we would have been miserable if we had to spend four nights in that first room.  Our rating is based primarily on our newer, larger room, but we had to consider the small crowded room as well.

Although the staff spoke little English, there was one gentleman upon whom they were able to call who had excellent English and who was very pleasant in responding to our requests and questions.  The rest of the staff were quite reserved, possibly because they were nervous about dealing with English speaking clients.

We left an item behind and tried to contact the hotel by email.  Our messages went unanswered -  perhaps because of the language issue.  When we arrived in Nagasaki several days later, we had the concierge telephone Hotel Arthur to arrange for the return of our item.  We were pleased that it had been saved - it been 3 days since we departed.  We paid for the shipping and Hotel Arthur forwarded it to us and it arrived in two days.  We appreciate their kindness in wrapping and sending the package to our hotel in Nagasaki.

Good location, nothing special

The positives: 
Proximity to JR Beppu Station (just a mere 5-minute walk), a 24-hour convenience store is almost right outside the hotel, closely located to restaurants etc. I think the hotel's onsen was a bonus but unfortunately I didn't have time to soak in it at night. Clean rooms, decent enough for my one-night stay. I'd mainly used this hotel as a rest stop for the night (checked in at 10pm, checked out the following day at 7am for an early-morning train) and it fulfilled all my basic needs. 

The minus:
This hotel lacked character, and the tremendous warmth and friendliness from the staff (I'd stayed the previous night in a ryokan, also in Beppu, which had impeccable service). That said, however, I wasn't expecting much from a budget hotel. 

In-room wi-fi would have been great. (wi-fi only available at the hotel lobby)

Good for the budget traveler

Hotel Arthur is a very nice hotel close to Beppu station. You can easily walk around the city by foot.
The rooms are small, but a little bigger than a usual Japanese room. Comfortable bed. 
The staff was not able to speak English.
A lovely city with great hot springs.

Very nice hotel and good location

Hotel Arthur signage is too small and confused with the cafe, not easy to recognise even we arrived in front of the hotel.
