I decided to come here to eat last Sunday here as pit stop was a great decision on arrival was greeted by the owner  who got us seated right away one of the lovely staff members came over to check if we had  gotten menus and if in the mean time we would like a drink  after the waitress left another waitress came over to check if  we were okay and being taken care of which was very  good attention to their customers they made sure  we were treated well we had the turkey and ham and roast beef and it was the best food we had in a while was presented well and good quality good value do recommend coming here

We were just passing through Ballymahon and needed a stop and something to eat. This hotel was recommended and it did not disappoint. We had a tasty, substantial home cooked meal. It was delicious. The service was so quick and the staff were friendly and helpful. The chef has to be commended. We will definitely call again.

We had a most delicious meal and meet up with friends at Cooneys restaurant. The rib eye steaks were melt in the mouth, service was great and the place was buzzing, atmosphere was great with Criistmas parties in full swing. Highly recommend. Well done! Margaret

I attended a family meal in this hotel yesterday.  It was a large party of different age groups. The hotel accommodated us at short notice and looked after us excellently from start to finish. The food - for such a big crowd - was excellent, and there was a great choice of food. The service was very good and the staff - in both the dining room and the bar - were very friendly and accommodating. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others.

Excellent hotel well maintained..Probably on the 4 Star level.. No negatives.. Nice staff. Stayed here on a Royal Canal Way bike trip (actually the Famine Way from Strokestown and the Famine Museum).. Good meal in the bar/restaurant.. Recommend.

Myself my wife  my daughter and my father called in to Cooneys  while visiting Ballymahon. On arrival we were promptly seated by a very friendly and mannerly waitress. She took our drinks order and returned with the drinks and took our food order. All  our food came out within 10 mins was hot and plentiful . We had ordered two beef dinners  a lazagne and a chicken burger special.. All four meals were excellent. Plenty on the plates and beef was so tender .. After finishing, our plates were promptly cleared and deserts and coffees were ordered . The bill was fair and we showed our appreciation with a tip. I have worked in the hospitality sector for over 35 years and it is great to see polite chatty staff that actually care about and know what they are doing  in this day and age. The toilets were spotless  but it was our waitress and the excellent food that made our day. Well done Cooneys. 


Mick Cooney couldn’t have looked after us any better. We hadn’t seen each other in decades and the food and ambiance allowed us catch-up to the wee hours of the morning. 
The pub area was well filled with locals for Sunday breakfast .. always a good sign of quality 

The rooms were vast, beds comfy and breakfast hot, plentiful and tasty. 

Well worth a visit.

We recently stayed at Cooneys Hotel following a family bereavement. Our contact Anne and Josie were so kind in organising our 3 night stay. The rooms were lovely, spacious and spotless. Our breakfast was served each morning by a wonderful member of staff called Annette who made us feel so welcome.

Myself and my partner visited Cooneys while driving through Ballymahon. We were lucky to get a table as it was on Mothering Sunday so the place was packed. We were too late for the dinner menu but had the evening menu. I had Chicken wrapped in parma ham with butternut squash and potato and fresh veggies, and my partner had chicken salad dish with chips. My meal was just fantastic and my partner thoroughly enjoyed his meal too. We were so full we could not manage desert! The taste, presentation and service was excellent. Staff were so helpful and pleasant. Guinness wasn't bad either! I would recommend having a meal here. I will definitely be back.

We travelled from England to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and we were not disappointed. From when we arrived until we left we were well looked after. Staff were fabulous even on the most busiest day, St Patrick’s Day, they were under so much pressure but everything ran smoothly. There is a great choice of food but if you would like something different all you had to do was ask nothing was too much trouble. Mike and Josie (the owners) are always on the premises so if you have any queries they are there to help.

Our stay at Cooneys Hotel

The open steak sandwich is to die for, we have never had a nicer one! Absolutely worth the visit , very friendly and helpful staff too , fire was lit so the pub area was nice an cosy when we came in and it had a lovely atmosphere all round . definitely be back again . 

Worth the visit for the steak sambo 

Nice friendly pub/restaurant. Food was good plenty of it and nice and hot. Nice atmosphere in the pub with friendly staff. Service was quick. There is ample room for family groups. The facilities were clean and well maintained. This is a second visit in 3 years and the experience was the same.
