Location is good. Beds are comfy. Hot shower, western toilet. Towel provided. Wifi is there but weak and unstable. AC worked fine. Rooms are serviced daily. Did not notice a smokey-stink. Staff is very friendly, speak a bit english and all the info given was correct (like travel-times, fares etc.).
I had a room around the common area on the frist floor. There is a TV and unfortunately some indonesian holiday-maker started it on two occations already at 06:15AM. So, get a room away from that living area and you made a pretty good choice.

Nice rooms, beware of neighbors...

It's an old hotel, but the room is very clean. The owner and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good, you can chose Nasi goreng, toast or bubur ayam, with coffee and tea. No lunch and dinner, but the staff will help you to order food you like without any charge. Laundry service is excellent. Free wiFi is available, although not so fast, bur it is good enough for email and social media. From this hotel, you can reach Losari Beach and Fort Rotterdam  easily. The hotel provides airport pick-up and drop, or if you need car, you can rent it.  We like the atmosphere since the first time we stayed there, so every time we plan to visit Makassar, we know already where to stay because the staff always try to make your staying enjoyable. If you like a hotel with  homy feeling, then Venus Kencana is for you.

Feels like home

this hotel is older style. Staff here were friendly and helpful, breakfast was ok. Very Good coffee shop/restaurant only 100metres down the road (to left out front door) Easy walk to Losari promenade etc.  Hotel smells very smokey, so if you a non smoker you will probably hate it.
i stayed elsewhere on my second stay in makassar (for a few dollars more) and it was worth being somewhere modern in the hot and busy city of makassa

We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The rooms are very clean, and the staff is extremely attentive. Although most don't speak English very well (this is seen throughout makassar) there was always one of the owners close by that helped us with what we needed. The hotel philosophy must be to make the stay as comfortable as possible for the guests :) On the downside the internet had some issues on the top floor but the owner was very keen on solving them in the near future. At the reception the internet worked fine. We have no issue in highly recommending this hotel as the stay there was probably one of the best we had in our trip
