Excellent location with many dining options nearby at crawling distances. Great rooms with old world charm. Staff super friendly and helpful. The verandah was a great place to sit and read, chat. Part of an art gallery, really got residency vibes. Just need to ensure you get the right directions to get in if you are getting there first time and especially at night. 

A haven in Kolkata

Very nice accommodations. I love the veranda. Please not that this is a very small, almost boutique hotel, located on the second floor of a building. Do not be put off by the entrance. The staff was very helpful. 

Nice hotel 

Without a doubt this place should be your next destination getaway if you are in Kolkatta. Exceptional experience in a property that has retained the old world charm of ‘Calcutta’ and is a hidden gem tucked away in a nondescript building which at first glance might want you to rethink, but as you open the door to the Residency, it takes you to an entirely different world. Tastefully done rooms with high ceilings, antique furniture, a rolling verandah to soak up every bit of this city with great service, we loved our 5 days and will be back for sure! The owner, Mrs. Khullar is extremely accommodating and helpful not to mention their staff who are always smiling and ready to help. Freshly cooked homemade breakfast is served everyday as per your choice which adds to the appeal and the experience. 
The property is smack in the middle of almost everything that you need in the city and major restaurants, pubs, sights and sounds are all at a stone throw’s distance. 
We loved this place so much that 3 whole days we did not venture out at all but stayed back indoors😬
Highly recommend if you love old world hospitality!

Exceptional Old World Charm and Hospitality!

This place is very special, and reminiscent of the Calcutta of old. Our stay was made memorable because of the following:
1. Large, well appointed room with a long shared balcony connecting the 3 rooms of the property. The place has heritage colonial architecture and furniture, together with very modern fixtures. From the quality of the toiletries, to the towels, the linen, everything was of top quality.
2. Large and comfortable king-size bed, made for a great night's sleep. 
3. A small team of alert staff, always willing to help. 
4. Very functional but appetising English breakfast, with one Indian dish included. We had fruits, cereals, toast, eggs to order, sausages and salami, yogurt and Poha, Idli, Puri on different days, so that the fare was non repetitive. For lunch and dinner, we ordered through Swiggy or Zomato from any of the many fabulous restaurants in Kolkata's famous Park Street area. The food gets delivered right upto the floor, and the staff will provide the cutlery. If required, they will also reheat your food for you.
5. The location of the property is unbeatable, at the heart of the city, and yet tucked in. The presence of the US Consulate opposite ensures the road outside is quiet, and devoid of the usual melee seen on other Kolkata roads. 
6. Adding to the quiet outside was the peaceful environs inside, made possible by the other guests who respected the privacy and silence of fellow guests. 
The property is a favourite of it's regulars, so one needs to book in advance. The booking and the checkout were very smooth. All in all, a very comfortable experience. 


The Perfect Combination of Old and New in the Heart of Calcutta

Most people wait for their stay to get over to write a review but here I am sitting at the magnificent  writing desk in my room at Harrington Residency, feeling content and happy to have chosen this gem of a hotel for my short stay in Kolkatta. Nearby, my cats are lounging on the warm comfortable bed. 

I have lived in bigger hotels but none of them have charmed me as The Harrington Residency. The hotel is in a posh part of the city with museums and other attractions a short ride away, and legendary restaurants at walking distance. 

The Boutique hotel is housed in a building that is easily 100 years old. Unassuming from the outside, the Victorian interiors of the hotel take you back in time. There is a huge verandah with comfortable chairs and tables where you can longe and sip on your tea while the sparrow chirp happily from the trees. The rooms are palatial with 30 feet high ceiling, huge palatial beds and beautiful lighting. The glass walls let natural sunlight stream into the room during the day. The bathrooms are surprisingly modern. Clearly, Mrs. Khullar, the owner, put her heart and soul into designing this hotel. There is also an art gallery on the other side of the hotel adding to its charm. 
The staff is smiling, kind and helpful. The food is delicious. 

I highly recommend The Harrington Residency for short and long stays. We are surely coming back!

A Pet-Friendly Colonial Gem in Park Street

We had a very nice stay in february 2020! The rooms were spacious, the gallery was really nice and the breakfast was basic but adequate and tasty! The whole building and the veranda were really special and we felt like back in the Victorian Century! :-)

Victorian atmosphere!

I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the place has a quirky restful old world atmosphere. It's less a full-blown hotel - it's three rooms overlooking a lovely verandah with a small area for a good breakfast. There's even a small art gallery.

Location is good as you are close to the tourist sights such as the Victorian Memorial, Maidan and Park Street. There's a metro stop about 10-15 mins walk away.

Definitely recommend this as a place to stay - especially for couples.

Lovely, charming place to stay in a good location

I read a lot of positive reviews here and I seems all these folks never travelled India before.
To clarify: This is NOT a hotel. Its two rooms in a very shady and dirty large building. The rooms are quite ok but there is no reception, no restaurant, nothing. There is a small area where they serve breakfast, but it's not a restaurant.
The offer all in all is OK for people who just want to spend a night or two. The problem is two things: Online, they make it seem like a hotel, but it's not, it's more a B&B but with no personal interaction. Furthermore, for the price they ask for, you can easily find a decent 4-5 star hotel with much more charming colonial vibes, a real restaurant and a more secure feeling.
My recommendation is to go there if you can push the price below 30000 rupees or even less. Otherwise, this is a scam and you can go to a real hotel spending less money.

Do not be put off by the entrance to the building nor the apparently rickety lift which works very well, take the lift to the second floor and ring the bell on the lhs.   From then on it is lovely.  Three rooms all giving onto a charming verandah, helpful staff, lovely breakfast, other meals can be brought in.   You are close to the US Consulate so security is obvious but excellent and friendly.   We spent three nights and would stay again without question.

Delightful guesthouse in central Kolkata

I live in Kolkata, hence i didn't need a place to stay, but my friend did. She chose Harrington Residency on her own, and it was a great choice! Lovely balcony, large rooms, oozing old world charm and comfort. She even mentioned the complimentary breakfast was yum. Given it's location close to Park Street, i would highly recommend this place.
