Review for Mr. George's Historic Homestay in Fort Kochi:

I had an incredible stay at Mr. George's historic Homestay in Fort Kochi. Mr. George was not just a gracious host but also incredibly friendly, providing me with invaluable guidance on exploring the area. His vast knowledge about the local attractions and history added immense depth to my experience. The accommodation was a treasure trove of history, boasting a historic building with high ceilings, vintage styling, and even wooden flooring in some parts of the house. This added an extra layer of charm and authenticity to the stay. The prime location near major attractions made it even more appealing. My experience was delightful, and I am keen on returning for another stay. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable and authentic Fort Kochi experience, enriched by Mr. George's hospitality and the remarkable historical ambiance of the place!

Stay in a Historic House 

Our stay at Vasco was short - only a day - but the experience of staying in this near-500-year-old building, alongside the wonderful service, made it one of the most outstanding memories of our journey. 

Sitting in the window and looking out through ancient stained glass with a cup of coffee in the early morning is an experience that can't be compared. I highly recommend this for travelers looking for mid-level amenities and top-tier experience. When I return to Kochi in the future, I won't think of staying anywhere else.

An incredible room, blanketed in history.

Property was really historic and well maintained , Rooms were quite big and spacious , toilets were little bit small , No AC in the room as already mentioned by the owner coz it's an old property, everything was on walking distance from the property , as it is said vasco da gama stayed at the property it was quite hot destination for photographers . Owner George was very kind and helpful , also he explained us history of fort kochi and he suggested us not very known places of fort kochi .

We love the property .

Vasco Homestay is very good located in Kochi. You have a wide range of nice places in walking distance like good restaurants and the sea side. The place itself could be maintained better. The rooms are huge and you feel a little lost with all the beds and other furniture standing there. If you go as a family and want to stay all in the same room this could be fun. The owner prepares very lovely breakfast. She makes every day something else like nice Dosas or pancakes. The place is too expensive.

Could be a great place. Good located.

I do not recommend this place, especially for any female solo travelers. I had a very negative experience with the host. While the room was large and nicely furnished, the host behaved disrespectful to me. During the initial days of my stay he seemed friendly but he became quickly intrusive and inquisitive about my private life. In the end he told me that he watched me secretly through an open window in the backyard. In addition, at the moment of saying good bye he touched me inappropriately. I did travel already in spring 2017 but I remember these incidents.

Harassement of female solo traveler

I initially was planning on staying at Vasco's for 2 nights and loved it so much that I ended staying from the 4th to the 10th July. The owner and family are ever so helpful, kind and with great advice about the region. The house and my bedroom was beautiful, very atmospheric with its antiques, vast spaces, and lovely garden with an orchid garden. The location is ideal, at a stone's throw to the Chinese fishing nets, beach front, the church where Vasco de Gala was first buried (it's opposite the house), shops and delicious restaurants (Fusion Bay, Oceanos) and at a 35 mins walk to Jew Town where Paradesi Synagogue and Mantucherry palace are (you can also hop onto a local ferry to Jew town for 5 rupees, recommended!). The backwaters tour which Vasco's organise also was great. Don't hesitate to stay there!

A wonderful stay

We had made a booking to stay in Vasco through goibobo for June 2018. We called Mr. George around 12.30pm to as the route. We had already reached fort kochi by then. He spoke extremely rudely and said that he doesnt accept bookings through any sites and was not even ready to offer us any room. Im surprised by the praises people are saying about him.

Extremely rude behaviour

Amazing 500 year old building in super central location. My room was really large (it had two queen sized beds in it!) and had it's own private veranda and sitting room. It's an old, centrally located building- expect creaky doors, a somewhat basic bathroom (but clean and a really hot shower) and some street noise (dies down at night)- and you can't top it's charm and beauty. George and Sheba are wonderful hosts. Really liked having home cooked breakfast in the cafe downstairs. On my last day George took me on his scooter to see a temple elephant in a neighborhood garden- would have never found it by myself! Great advice on spice shopping and can arrange day trips as well. Excellent bookstore and bicycle tours just downstairs.

Lovely homestay with lots of history and very welcoming hosts

The whole place oozes charm and character. It is not often that one can stay in a house of such great historical significance. The large double bedroom we stayed in is massive, and there are 2 additional sitting areas as well. In the bedroom itself there are 2 armchairs and both the windows have built-in seats from which you can watch the outside world go by. Large ceiling fans keep everything cool. Very clean. George and Sheeba, two of the nicest people you are ever likely to meet, will really look after you and are great to chat to. Perfectly located just minutes from the beach. A little bit of street noise but not particularly intrusive. Lovely cafe downstairs (reviewed separately). Cannot recommend highly enough.
