Hotel Nordbo

I had an amazing stay at Hotel Nordbo. The staff was very friendly, and my room felt like a home away from home. My apartment was very comfortable, and had everything I needed. Kitchen was fully stocked. Would definitely stay here again.

Easy commute to the airport, ferry and downtown.  Nice restaurant on site.  Free laundry/ no detergent available in the laundry room.  Front desk is closed in the evening and during the weekend.

Nice place to stay, new & clean.  Close to both the harbor and airport.

Quiet location, just as I had hoped for. Was Upgraded to Studio Apt. Kitchen niche was useful. Soap but no lotion in the bathroom. Blackout curtains good for sleeping in Nordic summer light. Dinner my first night was tasty & besutifully presented. (Steak & baked potato with small salad garnitur.) Staff were very friendly & informative.

An excellent place to stay for exploring Nuuk.

The Hotel Nordbo is a beautiful, clean, and very comfortable place to stay. The owner, Michael, was friendly and very helpful, even when we arrived after hours at 11 PM. The food is excellent, and it is conveniently situated so that you are within easy walking distance of some of the best sites in Nuuk. 

Nuuk is overly expensive and a small settlement more than a town. So not alot of options but in this case while expensive the hotel did have good internet. Restaurant was going through renovations so was annoying.

Having just arrived here to Nuuk, Greenland on a flight from the UK (via a night stopover in Copenhagen), I’m immediately conscious of the fact that I have come to a part of the world that varies greatly in terms of culture to most of the other 59 countries I have visited over the years.

People are extremely friendly but unlike most of the nearby Scandic nations, not everyone speaks English and prefer to use Danish or their native Inuit-based language. On first appearance, the ‘city’ of Nuuk seems a deserted suburb of wooden houses but on closer investigation, these houses are home to many fine shops and stores with high quality (and high price) goods.
One such group of buildings is the Nordbo Hotel complex with its distinctive dark red structures and, although some current renovation work has meant that scaffolding is everywhere, it doesn’t detract from the curious layout and ‘unusualness’ of Nordbo.

Not actually a hotel in the Western European traveller’s sense of the word, this facility is home to a wide range of self-catering apartments which, for anyone like me who spends several months each year living out of a suitcase in so many hotel rooms that all feel the same, this is actually a refreshing change.

With downtown Nuuk just a five minute walk away, shops to get the necessary food items you need are plentiful and, as mentioned, it does make a pleasant change to be able to cook a meal instead of yet another restaurant sitting.

The standard single, reasonably priced apartment comes with (strong signal) free wifi, vital for the modern traveller and its worth mentioning that although the complex is very close to city centre, you certainly wont be kept awake by any traffic, as it feels very much ‘out in the sticks’.

Stayed for 2N. Room is spacious for a 1 bedroom apartment n a little dated but otherwise is clean n has hot shower . Has small kitchen, fridge , coffee maker n stove, utensils , pots n pans n plates. Much everything u wanted if u want to cook. I find the toilet sanitary system needs an upgrading has that stale smell ( lucky I brought  with me an air freshener)    lighting can be brighter it was a little dim. Front service staff Ester was excellent! Very friendly n helpful. As we stayed on 2nd floor she helped us ladies carried our big luggages up. She is a strong lady! Very smiley n helped us booked taxi to the airport. office doesn't open 24hrs so ask for help, booking Taxi or excursion  or advise during their operating hours. Room has no hair dryer but u can borrow from them. Clean the room after cooking or u be charged for extra cleaning. Hotels are expensive in Nuuk. Here the location is convenient n price is lower than those in town which is just 15 mins walk away.  Airport just a 15-20 mins ride about US$30-35. The town is small so from here is just 10-15 mins walk. There is a small mall called Nuuk centre u can find a big grocery store there. U will psssby here on the way to the town.

Good location at reasonable price

I stayed here 7 nights this year in May alone in a studio apartment. I opted for this as it was the cheapest one in town. The location is not bad and you can walk to the supermarket and the town center in about 5-10 minutes, which is good enough if it is not snow-storming with 90km/ winds. You can walk to the main road in about 1-2 minutes and catch a tax very easily. As I arrived late, the reception was closed however, everything was arranged including the keys to the apartment so I had no issues. You just need to ensure that you tell them in advance what time you will be arriving and also it is worth sending a reminder to them a few days earlier if you booked a while back. The room had pretty much everything. I didn’t have a proper bad but a couch arranged as a bed as it was a studio flat for 1-2 people maximum but I was on my own so it was fine. Even the studio itself was quite spacious and definitely enough for a solo traveller. I found the dish soap so I did my dishes before leaving and dried them up but again, I would do them every night anyway. If you don’t do them every night you need to ensure they are done before you check out or you will be charged. I didn’t use the laundry service so I don’t know how that is. I just used up a lot of cleaned clothes but I had brought an entire big suitcase of clothes for a week so I didn’t need to do laundry. The problem is the reception opening times, which are from 8am to 4pm. You need to buy a voucher to use the wifi (I bought the weekly one) and you cannot buy it when the reception is closed so if you arrive past 4pm you won’t have internet until the next day for sure. The reception should stay open a bit longer. If there are emergencies you can reach one of the staff members on the cell phone. The view from my room was quite ugly (it looked like a real estate). Overall it was not too, too bad however they frequently have workers stay there and one morning there were drunken workers yelling and banging on the walls at 5am. They did that until at least past 8am. I had to call the staff member at 7am to get them to stop and even then I am not sure he actually told them to stop since they continued until past 8am. So yeah, watch out for that. One last thing: the airport is quite close to the hotel, about 15 minutes by car and the price for the ride there is about 200 DKK.
