Late season family ski trip to La Plagne, staying at the terra nova. Seriously good value when booked with sunweb, including lift passes. A world class ski area, literally right on the doorstep.

Hotel was great. Amazing location, food was a particular highlight, having not been expecting too much given price paid and buffet style but was pleasantly surprised. Lots of choice and good quality. Breakfast was maybe a bit limited but was completely adequate, kept all of us happy.

Rooms were comfortable, warm and really good WiFi coverage. One of the 2 lifts developed a fault one day but was fixed within the day, efficiently managed. 

We used the car park which was really convenient. Ski lockers great as well, and ski hire in hotel for even further convenience. 

My only suggestion to the hotel would be to have some change in the hotel somewhere for the pool table in the bar! We tried to get some 2 euros change a few times but the bar doesn't take cash and reception didn't have change either. A slight annoyance which you would think could be easily resolved. 

Great value, good quality family ski break

I have travelled alone skiing  before, but it is the first time I have stayed in a hotel, and I have to say I definitely will be going back again. Here's why!
1. Location - unbeatable SI/SO at its very best, next to 2 crucial chairlifts - the Boulevard (for the learners) and the Bergerie (for those heading to the top) - Brilliant
2. Facilities - Ski-set hire shop on site, Great boot room, spa, gym.
3. Accommodation (and don't forget you come here to ski) - better than any chalet I have ever stayed in. Big warm rooms, shower, bath, toilet and cavernous wardrobes
4. Bar and Lounge - spacious and comfy after a long day on the slopes. if a touch  pricey - local beers at just under £8 for 500mm - |No happy hour - Damn!
5. Food - Plentiful, if you need more that continental breakfasts, don't worry there are hot UK style options, all you can eat buffet style - scrambled eggs, toast, boiled eggs, coffee ago go, (but take your own tea bags) - for the evenings it was AYCE buffet again  with was a choice of 2 mains plus pastas, the inevitable raclette,,chicken, pork (we had steak one evening) plus spuds three ways, though a tad short on standard UK style veg and not really hot enough for me - tho' I got over it!. There was plenty of salad options too and the deserts (not that I ever have/had one) were right up there - though I was tempted by a portion of the biggest creme brulee I have ever see!! (PS the wine may be mediocre, but its all free, too)
6. Atmosphere - a bit low key for the avid 'apres ski' afficionados, but it is very close to Plagne centre which is only about 5 mins walk away (on the flat) with bars galore!
7. Staff - could not fault them as good as I have had anywhere in the world. Nothing was too much trouble
8. Cleanliness - no problem even if the decor is just a shade dated now.

If you know the resort you will know where this hotel is and I have stayed all over this resort, but if you go as a family or group (as I usually do) you will not be disappointed, OK it is not the cheapest but what it does at the Terra Nova is to give you everything you need for a successful trip into one of the best resorts in the world.

For the perfect ski base it is right up there!

I don't understand some of the reviews here.  This hotel has one of the best locations in Plagne Centre, being truly ski-in / ski-out.  Convenient heated lockers (one per room), with benches to aid getting boots on and off. Adjacent hire shop in basement.

Food more than adequate.  Largely French, as you would expect.  Choice of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, egg & bacon, toast / croissants / pains-au-chocolat, ham, cheese for breakfast.  At dinner soup or plenty of salads as starters; 4 or 5 main choices (inc fish), and a variety of desserts, including cheese.  Specialities like tartiflette or raclette some nights. Coffee / tea / juice with breakfast but unlimited (drinkable) wine with dinner.  Even if not arriving near to start of service, most dishes seemed to be replenished regularly.

Rooms are basic, but adequate.  Cleaned every day.  Wifi (free).  French TV.  Shower over bath with plenty of hot water, with liquid soap / conditioner provided.

Bar area is a bit too small for the number of guests. Didn't try fitness room / sauna, as there for the skiing!

Perfect ski hotel

Stayed here at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb 2023 for a week.  I'd read mixed reviews before I travelled and kept an open mind to save myself being disappointed.  But, I wasn't disappointed and our week went by without any issues.  The hotel was warm, the room was clean, the bed was comfy and the shower was hot.  We had a great view onto the slope that runs down the back of the hotel.  Breakfast every morning was more or less the same but that was OK.  I overdosed on pain au chocolat but there are worse ways to breakfast!!  I noticed the boiled egg machine was there one day and not the next but we made enquiries and it reappeared.  Dinner was good - I thought there was plenty of choice and every day there was something different.  We had a drink most evenings in the bar in the hotel and the staff there were nice.  I think on the whole the staff weren't too excited about their work but that's just my personal opinion.  The ski locker room was good.  Each hotel room has an assigned locker which was heated so all your equipment was dry the next day.  It's not the Ritz but it's perfectly fine for a week's skiing.  It could do with updating in terms of its decor but I suspect that the owners of the hotel don't have that on their list of things to do any time soon.  Go with an open mind, expect nothing and you'll not be disappointed.  You'll more likely be less stressed that way!  It's in a great location for the ski slopes and a 10 min walk into town.

Dated and Basic but OK

We stayed here for a week of snowboarding. Me, my husband and our 2 year old son. The hotel is dated and could do with a refurb (it was the same when I was in la plagne 12 years ago) but we were greeted well and the reception staff couldn’t have been more polite. Our room was small but okay and the views were amazing. The food is one of the best things about staying here (yum!!), as well as the location, you can ski straight out of level -1. Loved the food. Other guests were lovely too. Evening entertainment was nice. 
There were two things that let the place down for us. Our toilet stank, and I mean stank, of stale urine. It wasn’t in their general toilet on the first floor so only ours (I hope). The Crystal reps, as well as ourselves, asked for it to be cleaned on more than one occasion. The hotel said they would but never did. The smell hadn’t spread to the rest of the apartment so we didn’t realise until the morning after we had arrived else we would have happily changed room. The other issue was the cleaners (who don’t do a lot) aren’t careful to ensure the doors are locked when they leave your room in the day and twice we came back to an unlocked door (we were very careful to lock it ourselves). The restaurant windows also let in quite a lot of the cold so we often preferred to sit in the centre of the restaurant when we could but it is the Alps after all. If they sorted the toilet and deep cleaned/refurbed the hotel, I would definitely stay again. 

Brilliant, great for families, other than cleanliness

We have recently returned from a week stay in Terra Nova. I was apprehensive given the previous reviews, however I should not have been! 

The hotel was in an excellent location, with ski in ski out facilities that lead straight down to two lifts. It was also only a short 2 minute walk to the bubble lift, and a 5 minute walk to the village with its shops, restaurants and bars. 

The ski hire shop was in the hotel, which made renting gear easy. We had an issue with the first set of skis, and the staff were happy to swap them no bother at all.

The facilities in the hotel were not bad, the restaurant was partly cordoned off which made it sometimes difficult to get a table, however the restaurant manager was happy to assist in locating a table if needed, but we never struggled. You could also reserve a table if you were in a large group. There are very few tables for 2 people, so if you are in a pair you might have to make some new friends at dinner, which we enjoyed. 

The bar had plenty of seating, a pool table and foosball tables. There was also ping pong in the gym. The bar staff were lovely, they were happy to explain any cocktail ingredients or drinks choices. This is a cash free hotel, so bare that in mind. We used the card they give you at reception on arrival, which works as a tab for your hotel stay, with no problems at all. They give you a receipt for every transaction if you are worried about losing track of what you've spent!
 
We found very little wrong with the food, it was a slightly limited menu, but there was always a choice of mains, an extensive salad bar, a cheese selection and at least 3 desserts. You could go back multiple times so if you didn't like something you could just try again. The food was quite fish heavy the week we went, which I enjoyed but probably isn't for everyone. Remember this is France not England, so the food will not be served piping hot. I did hear there was a microwave though if you prefer your food warmer. 
Free wine and water readily available at dinner. 
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, from reception to the bar to the restaurant. 

The only slight downside was breakfast, it did lack the range of dinner. If you are expecting a full English, you aren't going to get it! but they had cereals, fruit, yoghurt, eggs, bacon, toast and pastries, Tea/Coffee facilities and fruit juices. They also had facilities to make sandwiches for the slopes. 

The hotel is a little on the basic side, but overall this is a good hotel with friendly staff, a great location, and good facilities. I would stay at the Terra Nova again.

A good hotel in a great location

This is a very well located hotel with pleasant staff and functional rooms let down only by the food. 

The hotel is ideal for ski-ing straight onto the piste. The rooms are lovely and warm and there is plenty of hot water. The beds have good quality sheets on them and are comfortable.

The hotel goes to great lengths to provide wine, salad, a choice of at least two main courses, soup and dessert as well as cheese but no tea or coffee - incredible !! Aside from this the mains can be very bland. Example:- curry was like chicken in a bland white sauce and the meatballs very similar (except brown sauce).

Good hotel let down by food

The hotel is extremely basic! We went in a large family group with a mixture of expert and beginner skiers. I will start with the good. The hotel is excellent for skiing as you can ski in and out. The rooms are a good size and clean but thats were it ends. Staff are mostly friendly but often look rather disheveled. They need an iron but bet there not an abundance in this hotel.  The facilities in the hotel are limited. Breakfast is exceedingly poor with often limited choice and if you are not in the resturant by 8am even worse. If you are lucky you may get some fatty bacon although an abundance of sloppy scrambled egg is always available! Cultery can be a challenge as have had to eat my cornflakes with a teaspoon. Dinner in the evening is bland and on a good evening is edible. On a bad evening truly inedible! There is no tea or coffee making facility outside of breakfast. The showers are impossible as the mixer running from the bath. It is either freezing or roasting - haven't experienced showers like this in many a year. The ski resort is very good and will return but not to this hotel. I should have taken more notice of the reviews before booking as I am not the only one with such complaints dating back a few years. Clearly this review will have any effect as previous reviews doesn't appear to have had any impact whatsoever!

Consider only if you are looking for the cheapest  option possible; or if free wine at dinner time is important to you (which, btw, was actually surprisingly decent); or ski in/out is a must (we did enjoy that part).

Would we return? Only if there was no other option at that price range (read: as low as possible).

The hotel is tired and only mildly pleasant (I mean barely) and only saving grace is that, quite literally, we spend absolute minimum of time inside. That's to say, sleeping, eating and getting ready to hit the slopes or getting ready for dinner after returning from the slopes. Rooms are rather bare, connected by internal doors and you can hear  your 'neighbours' talking/snoring.

Food. This part is a bit funny actually. Under no circumstances try to approach hot/mains food counter with a smaller, salad plate. You will either get a stern, scowling look from one of the cooks stood behind the counter, you might be told off for using a wrong plate or, as I have witnessed on one occasion, the plate will be snatched from your hand and the cook will point you to where the correct, dinner plates are. Also, there are two trays from which, under no circumstances, should you be helping yourselves as you walk along the counter deciding what to have. You must wait for a cook to give you a piece of whatever might be in those trays at any given evening. If you try to do it yourself, you are risking for the spoon/fork to be, as with the plate, snatched from your hand and from there on, you end up in the cook's 'bad book'. On the other hand, frequent 'please' and 'thank you' do wonders with the cook.

Food itself. Dinner. Make sure not to leave arriving until too late, as the food does run out and an hour into a  service nothing is guaranteed. If you are a fan of a salad bar, you might actually be pleasantly surprised. I am not a great fan myself, but the food was quite good and for the first time I have been found raiding the bar most evenings. Now, the reason for it was that the hot selection was very much hit and miss avtually. It might appear at first that there is a good selection, on some nights there is nothing sensible there. Still, not the worst ever experience we had but right at the bottom.

 Breakfast was rather sorry affair but once you found your 'thing', you can stick with it for the rest of the stay. Mine was 3 soft boiled eggs, a toast, and slice of ham an cheese.

Ski lockers. Ensure you arrive early as there is little room there and, if you are unlucky, you will find someone blocking the passage for some minutes while trying to fit their ski boots on. We found the best way is to grab all your staff from the locker as quickly as possible and get into the hallway to put it all on; or there is usually plenty of space to sit in the shop/rental place which is inside the hotel right by the lockers.

I think that's it. Not a disaster but I am sure the hotel is on its way for a major refurb soon enough. Though unlikely to help with the food or stern cooks lol.

Consider only if you are looking for cheapest option.

Currently on day 3 here. Breakfast is dreadful . It took nearly an hour as all 3 coffee machines were out of order at some point resulting in huge queues. There are no boiled eggs 2 mornings running, no bacon this morning, no bananas 2 days running. Yes there are cereals but when you have autistic youngsters who are expecting a hot breakfast as advertised then it makes for stress. Reported to crystal rep yesterday who is aware of the issues but nothing happens. 
Evening meals are ok but food could be hotter. It is very noisy- like eating in a cafeteria. Noise overload for autistic youngsters. I asked for a wine list but apparently the manager of bar is getting it ready for the French half term.English guests clearly aren’t a priority for ordering wine. 
The best bit of the hotel are the ski in out facilities- the reason we booked this hotel. 
Someone else commented on tourist tax which we were told to pay last year but this year when I said we were with crystal they didn’t ask for money. We have paid st the bar with credit card each drinks round so hopefully they won’t try yo bill us at end of week, 
The hotel is great for access to slopes, shops and medical centre!
