We were met by the owner just as the World Cup Final had started but he was really friendly and invited us to watch the match with him, Bonus a celebratory glass of cremante when France won! Our room was one of the best we had stayed in a Logis. The village is lovely and sleepy. At just two hours from Calais it is a great place to stop on  the way back to the UK.
Food was really good too. We will return!

Warm welcome and lovely place

We are on our way to italy.  Needed to stop over night near laon.  Not wanting to stay in the town we found the l'auberge de vauclair on booking.com.  it was a a bit funky and different. Service was great.   Our room was plenty big enough with a nice bed and quality bathroom.  We had the eur 28 menu it was well worth it.  Chef patron came to chat to us.  Very nice guy.  Great place.

Smashing hotel great overnight stop.

How refreshing to visit an auberge with the best of French traditions. Set in a small peaceful village this auberge was all we hoped for. A lovely welcome, modern stylish rooms of a very high standard eg bed linen, and an excellent restaurant with freshly cooked food, simple yet refined. The 'basic' spring menu was excellent value at 28euro, and all we wanted when travelling, but the more expensive menu also looked very tempting. The owner-chef was welcoming, charming and  and helpful. Staff arranged a visit for us to the very small and rustic Hazart champagne house in nearby Hermonville, also to be recommended

We were welcomed by the owner/chef who trained locally and who is from the region. Our room, facing onto the road, had a comfortable, large double bed with a well-equipped bathroom. In spite of the freezing weather the room was warm enough and there was no road noise on the night we were there. Don’t expect anything flashy. This is a proper family run hotel where you get excellent value for money.

Dinner reflected the values of the rest of the hotel – good quality, well prepared food. It does not purport to be Michelin starred but delivers a thoroughly good dinner. The wine we chose was excellent and good value.

Breakfast followed the theme – simple but good quality. The owner is very welcoming and is well informed about the region. You can pay a lot more to enjoy finer fittings, décor and more complicated cooking but here you get the very best value for the money you spend whilst spending a comfortable night and eating well.

A French hotel as they used to be and as one would want them still to be

A friend and I stayed in this hotel for one night on our way to Alsace. We were arriving quite late (and were further delayed by a Eurotunnel train cancellation) but Manuel remained gracious throughout. He wasn't going to be there when we arrived because the cancellation delayed us even further, so he left us post-it notes all the way from the lobby to our room so that we would find it (and in the end he actually stayed extremely late to make sure we got to our room ok).
Again, because of our late arrival, Manual had agreed to leave us some cold plates and wine in our room (as the restaurant would be closed). The food and wine vastly exceeded our expectations and our only regret was that there was far more than we were able to eat. (I tasted the chocolate mousse the following morning as it seemed so awful not to have tried everything).
Our room was restful and I loved the slightly quirky decor. Manuel clearly cares about his guests and has paid attention to all the little details. I loved the the spa bath and toiletries and Manuel chatted with us in the morning and also gave us recommendations for wineries to visit. Manuel's warmth and dedication set the tone for a very welcoming stay.
I will not hesitate to stay here again the next time we drive to Alsace (and maybe we'll stay with him on the way back too).
