This hotel is in a fabulous location on the front at Lake Ohrid and a few steps from lake's edge. Rooms were very clean and quite spacious for our luggage. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is only one lift in the hotel so there can be a queue but very easy to use the stairs depending on which floor you are on. Be warned that it can be noisy along the main front at Ohrid at night especially in the summer months but this would be the same anywhere. Breakfast is based on an ordering system - the night before you indicate what you want to eat - there are 5 choices - not always what you would want and a buffet is preferable. The hotel's cafe was good and they did a great decaf cappucino which I was pleased about and we also had a good cheeseburger and chips after a long day. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay at Ohrid - in such a beautiful place you won't be in the hotel much anyway.

Excellent location for visiting Ohrid.

Our time with a group in Ohrid was most enjoyable.  The hotel was comfortable and the breakfast okay but not the best for us.  One of the important things was the position of the hotel by the lake, in a quiet location.  Despite this we were only a ten minute walk from the restaurant/cafe area in the town and in the perfect spot to enjoy the glorious sunsets and pick up a boat to go on the lake.

An Enjoyable Stay

This hotel had plenty of shortcomings but I absolutely loved it . Beautiful view right on the lake . No safe , no tea/coffee , room quite compact .Had a balcony . Breakfast not up to much , however meals in the restaurant in the evening were good . Staff very friendly and helpful . So although the facilities were not that good I adored the hotel .

Excellent location

I also stayed here as part of Intrepid Travel, and this was my favorite hotel of the trip There was a karaoke bar next door which was noisy until midnight. Just bring earplugs. The views were great. The internet worked quite well, unlike many of the more budget hotels we used. The breakfast was better than most on the trip. It's really a full service place; they even did laundry (for a fee), and have a cafe attached with full espresso and alcohol bar. It's an easy walk into town. If they could just get the noise issue controlled, it would be an unbeatable choice for the price.

Nice budget hotel, noisy until midnight

The location of the hotel is great with about a 5 minute walk along the promenade yo the old town.  In terms of the rooms yes the bathrooms are small but are clean and perfectly functional. The view from our room was stunning as it overlooks the lake but there is noise from outside in the evening but this was a small price to pay. The hotel staff were friendly and efficient.  The breakfast buffet is not as comprehensive as in larger hotels but was good enough and included cold meats eggs cereals and fruit so should satisfy most.
The only criticism I would make is that the rooms lack safes which could be fairly easily addressed. All in all a good mid range hotel.

Great location 

To make sure you get a view over the lake make sure to request a room with balcony on the side facing towards the lake. Short walk along promenade to Ohrid old town where there is a good selection of restaurants and bars.  
Below average buffet breakfast for this level of hotel.
Has lifts, but no porters, which I saw was a problem for an older couple. 

Ok room great views 

We decided to spend our 3-day stay in Ohrid at the Royal View Villa Hotel, which is located in the city center, right on the promenade stretching along the lake.
Indeed, the location of the hotel is one of its strongest assets. The harbor in Ohrid, from where boats and catamarans go, for example to St. Naum, is 400 m from the hotel. No more than a kilometer walk along the promenade and the pedestrian zone is to the very center of the city. Some of the rooms offer a view of the lake and probably that is why the name of the hotel Royal View Villa. However, if someone decides for a family room (two rooms, a bathroom plus a hall), lands on the other side of the hotel and  can forget about the royal view. In return, you can enjoy a view of the neighboring houses and blocks and the pavilion, which is under construction. In addition, in the evening, just below your balcony, guests of cafes and bars, which are located in the hotel building like to hang out. Of course, guests like to lead lively discussions with each other or even by phone. 
There are family rooms, but also regular double/twin rooms at the “non-royal view” side of the hotel. So it's worth taking care when booking a room to take that one with a view of the lake. Theoretically the best rooms i.e. apartments also have only a side view of the lake.

The official category of the hotel is 4 stars. What we saw in our room did not meet the requirements of even three. The lake-side rooms may have approached the 3-star standard, although the bathroom appearance and room size could leave room for discussion on this topic. Our room consisted of a long, narrow corridor from which you entered two independent, smaller rooms and a shared bathroom. Bathroom was decorated in the style of the first half of the 90s. It was a great difficulty to rinse the water in the toilet (not fully functional WC). In one of the rooms, instead of two single beds, there were a large double bed and a single bed, which made it almost impossible to walk through. The air conditioning was placed in the hall, so the one of two rooms was basically deprived of it. On the plus side you can count comfortable mattresses, good bedding and towels (changed daily) and a balcony. The room has no bottled water, safe, mini-bar (there is an empty fridge). For people with limited mobility it will be important that there is only one small elevator (up to 3 people) which makes strange, loud noises once in use.
Breakfast at the Royal View Villa is served from 06 to 10:00. When we were going down for breakfast (usually just before 9:00 am), often the dishes were eaten out, and those served hot were just cold, despite keeping them in the heaters. If something was missing, it was not replenished. Empty containers were standing. Of course, from what was left, you could compose breakfast, but this is not a hostel or a tourist hotel and you can expect something more  paying almost 100 Euro per night in Northern Macedonia during off-season time. 
In addition, if you are a non-smoker, you have bad luck. The better part of the restaurant, the one with a direct view lake, is for smokers. Even if no one smokes at breakfast, the floating odor can effectively discourage eating there.

In summary, a big plus for the location. If someone stays in the room with lake view, e.g. on the second or third floor, (s)he likes to get up early for breakfast and in addition is a smoker, (s)he will definitely be satisfied with the stay, enjoying the royal view.

Not quite royal view at the Royal View

After Skopje, Macedonia, we travelled by car to Ohrid, Macedonia to the Royal View Hotel. This is the half way point of our Eastern European and Balkan Peninsula Trip. Ohrid is surrounded by nature. It attracts visitors from all over the world. It has an Old Town with a number of Byzantine Churches and the Tsam Samuel Fortress. 

For travelers interested in jewelry, two families create synthetic pearls which are sold in the jewelry shops in town. Not natural. Most gold is 14 Carat. There are two jewelry shops that have Macedonian Rubies that are located from the region. They are opaque crystals of various shades of pink. Mostly set in silver filigree settings. Geologists have verified that these rubies are corundum in the last 10-15 years. That is what we have been told.

We stayed in a corner room with a lake and city view. It is spring and temperature is cool and it’s was windy, making it feel cooler. The room is large with a balcony facing the lake. This is a non-smoking room but many people smoke in the area and there is a faint smell of smoke outside the room. Smoking is allowed in restaurants and there are non-smoking areas in restaurants throughout the city. The people in the restaurant are friendly and helpful. Some speak English and some don’t. Furniture and mattress are not comfortable. 

Great View of Ohrid Lake

The restaurant enjoys a fantastic position overlooking the lake in Ohrid and has wonderful views. 

The menu is similar to other restaurants in the area though the food was better than most. 

However, despite the food, view and location we will not be visiting this restaurant again due to the awful service. 

We were “greeted” by a surly older gentleman who made us feel like we were inconveniencing him throughout our meal despite there being no other customers. 

Once the food arrived we ate quickly and left as soon as we could. 

Such a shame that a place that has so much going for it provides such a poor dining experience

Less than a royal reception

The Royal View Hotel is small and modern. It's also rather dim and mean inside and doesn’t run to porters. Fortunately we were only one floor up and there was a lift, but our room didn’t fill us with delight. The view out across the lake was the best of it, and it wasn’t grubby or squalid, but that was about all you could say. There were no flat surfaces on which to open our cases, so that we had to lay them on the floor and pick our way round them. There was neither desk nor chair, the bedside table on my side was cramped, and on the other side was a ledge on the wall just too far out of reach to be really convenient. The bathroom was small and the a/c underpowered. Breakfast is lowest common denominator.
