Smelly, blood stains and some kind of angry guard living there permanently. Ironically, the manager called me at 23 in the evening and acused me of smoking in the room!! I politely told her that I'm not a smoker and she replied: "are you sure that you're not smoking in the room?" I ran away in the morning and never returned. STAY AWAY! 

Nightmare hostel

I arrived at this hostel to find no reception desk, and no staff members to assist with check in. I had a look round the building (which was grotty and decrepit) to try to find someone to help me, but there was nobody. I tried calling the number on my booking, but was not able to get through. As such, there was no way for me to get the key to my room, and I would have been homeless for the night if I hadn't have been able to go to a nearby coffee shop for some wi-fi, and secure a last minute booking somewhere else. Because of my bad experience I requested a free cancellation, which the hostel originally agreed to - but then they had the cheek to say that they'd only agreed by mistake, and subsequently charged my card for the full amount of the stay. 

Avoid these crooks at all costs! Avoid the hassle and book somewhere more honest (and clean)!

DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND AVOID!!! PLEASE BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Okay, I still have some mixed feelings about this place. We stayed here as a group. Bed, sheets and towels where clean, so where the rooms. Wi-Fi was also working perfectly fine. The bathroom situation isn't really ideal. There are 4 bathrooms for all guests, especally in the morning this can be quite annoying. The bathrooms where completely worn down, and sicne there are no windows or proper ventilation there is also mold. Sanitizer for your feet after required... xD The rest of the house was clean, the shared room had a little kitchen, a kettle, toaster, fridge and some cutlery and dishes. The doors have cutouts with milky-glass in them, if somebody turns on the light in the hallway at night it can get really bright in the rooms. What is a plus is the close location to the center. The owners are also nice.

But the thing that was the biggest shock for me was the bar in the basement. Yes, there is a bar that plays loud music at least 12 hours starting from 20:00. Luckily  I'm a heavy sleeper so I personaly didn't have a big problem with it but still you feel the bass when lying in bed. The real deal with this is that this was mentioned nowhere in the description (also not on other sites, I checked). They even clai, that the rooms are soundproofed, This is either not true or the isolation is so old that it is non existent anymore. 

So yeah, you can stay there but i recommend looking for something else.

Well...

After reading the reviews for my last minute booking here I almost didn’t even show up. But I was actually greates by a really friendly woman for check in. The place is perfectly fine. They give you clean sheets and a clean towel. The bathrooms were clean, nothing fancy, but perfectly clean. I don’t know what kind of hostels the other reviewers are staying at or what they expect from the cheap price and central location, but I had a pleasant experience. I don’t know that I’d spend more than one or two nights there, but for a quick layover and a day in the city it was just fine.

Had a 3 bed room here... not sure how they fit 3 beds in the room, a sloping roof so you can't stand up right and a window that does not stay open. 
Yes, it's a good location and yes it's cheap but for an extra 10€ a night you can get place a lot lot better.
We couldn't bare to stay the night and changed hostels!

Worst Hostel Ever

What should I begin with? This place's been the worst place I've ever stayed in my life. 
Starting with a very rude receptionist: no one has ever been so rude and racist towards me. Secondly, we slept in a room without a door and during the first night I kept waking up because of people coming into the other rooms of a hostel. There were no rules or any other regulations of the noise. Thirdly, when we got our bed sheets they were DIRTY, also the blanket and the pillow were awful and dirty too.  We had to sleep in our clothes and it felt like we were sleeping at the station or at the airport (I'd choose it to this hostel).  Then, the kitchen and the bathroom were really dirty. We had to stay away from them in order to stay healthy. There were windows in every bathroom door so anyone could see you naked there. No, thank you. 
The only reason that we chose this hell on earth was because all the other hostels were booked. My advice: even if there is no place to stay, DO NOT ever choose this place! It will give you the worst impression of Tallinn and Estonians. There are so many other cheap options, e.q. couchsurfing/the airport/ a tent (I'm not kidding, everything would be better than this place). 
I don't want anyone to experience the awfulness of this Sakala Hostel. If you want to stay healthy and enjoy your trip, choose another option. Extra 5-10€ will be SO worth it. 

If you have to choose between sleeping in the airport and in this hostel, choose the AIRPORT

I stayed here with two friends because we wanted something central and cheap...I really recommend spending 10 extra euros and going anywhere else. You WILL thank me. I don't even understand how we found this spot.
This place is basically a real-life scary hostel stereotype. 
I can't go over all the details, but here are a few highlights: 
- Sketchy owner (?) who takes cash only payments (not a huge deal, but you do feel like you are dealing with the mafia)
- ALL the rooms have doors with GIANT windows on them. Like, you will see someone's butt through the window at some point... we all sure did! 
- NO restrictions or dealing with bad guests: one Russian family had a screaming child running all over the place (in the morning no less), the father was speaking insanely loud (even for a Russian) on the phone and walking in front of all the other guests doors, etc. The 'administration' didn't seem to exist even tough there is supposed to be a set of guidelines.
- There are double curtains on (outside) windows.... and both of them are see-through. This is not a deal breaker if you want a cheap place, but it was just a hilarious touch on top of all the strangeness. 

The building looks like it is about to fall down. If someone would tell me this place is haunted, I will believe it and feel bad for the ghosts who are stuck there. 

On the bright side: 
- It is cheap
- You do have a kitchenette (you can make some ramen and tea) 
- There are two or three showers (tough someone will see you naked at some point)
- The location is pretty ideal, close to the old town and a few other things
- There is free wi-fi, it's not great, but it seems to exist from time to time
- You might learn some Russian 
- You will NEVER be disappointed by any place you stay ever again! 

TLDR: This place is the live embodiment of a scary euro-trip style hostel. It is cheap and you will have hilarious stories to tell... but I really don't recommend staying.
