The Monika Hotel of today bears no relation to the negative reviews of 2016 and earlier. Excellent omelettes at breakfast. Excellent Vietnamese food in the evenings. Rooms , bathrooms and toilets all clean.

This is a place that should be avoided. The room rate is cheap, because you do not get much for this. This place does not deserve to be called a hotel. The only positive about the "hotel" is the ladies who serve breakfast. Here are some things we encountered:
1. One morning there was a dead rat in the swimming pool. The staff just removed it and did nothing to check/ clean the pool. In the afternoon I saw some kids in the pool. Hope they did not get sick. 
2. The mattresses are stained and very hard, totally not convertible. And looks like not changed for the last 10 years. 
3. The shower area is cramped up I ( 1.80 m) could not stand properly. 
4. The receptionist wanted to overcharge us when we checked out. Be careful!

This "hotel" is the worse place we ever stayed! 

   

Terrrible. Stay away. 

After a full day biking we arrived late in the afternoon in Cheb. Hotel Monika was recommended by the tourist office. But when we came there, the reception was in the restaurant where smoking is allowed. We had to pay in advance for the room and a deposit for the remote control. We paid 1.500 Kc for a double bed room, no breakfast! 
Little value for our money, only the shower was ok.
The next morning we left as soon as possible to have breakfast without cigarette smoke..... No recommendation from us.

Too much € for to little service

Myself and a couple friends stayed at hotel monika for the international shooting competition in Cheb. It was very cheap and located in probably the most perfect spot if you want to be in the city center. Staff doesn't speak much English, but its not a problem since we didn't expect them to. The service and the room on the other hand were terrible. The shower doors fell off several times when I tried to close or open it and the toilet seat was broken off the hinges and placed there like no one would notice. The maids picked up the room and re folded the sheets but the towels were never replaced and the trash was never removed from the room. I definitely will not be staying there again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you are just looking for a place to sleep. Not family friendly and be prepared to walk through a cloud of smoke in the downstairs restaurant, and don't expect any service either. Great location and very cheap though.

You get what you pay for

My friends and I stayed there this past weekend while attending an international shooting competition. Initially our thoughts were its cheap why not it doesn't look to bad. Well with my experience of hotels in Czech whatever star rating it is drop it one. Hotel Monika is no different noone speaks English just Czech and Deutsche (German). No worries I'm conversational. The room was adequate nothing special though, clean, had a flat screen. However there were things that were annoying such as no trash can the only one was located in the restroom. The restroom had a flimsy plastic seat and the shower door had to be closed carefully as to not come off the track, also the hot water in the shower had to be manipulated to find the sweet spot so that you could at least enjoy luke warm water. Our room was not even serviced the last day of our stay kind of unacceptable. In closing the location was awesome however, I would not stay here again unless I was on a budget, or it was the only available hotel out of its class and definitely not with a child.

Good value for money, rooms and bathrooms are clean. The hotel is situated in the city centre, close to the bus stop to Frantiskovy Lazne and train station. It is easy to find. We didn´t have breakfast there so I can´t judge, there are at least 2 big supermarkets and many shops and restaurants around so we didn´t use the hotel restaurant. It is ok if you are looking for something comfortable and cheap to stay overnight. We had to go downstairs to use the toilet but the shower was just across the hall. I would go there again.
