Albergue Ecologico Pozo Verde

Wow! This unpretentious but wonderful family-run place was one of our favorites in Costa Rica. The whole family - a middle-aged couple, the grandmother, and 3 daughters - run the place, doing everything from cleaning the rooms to making fresh trout caught from their own ponds for lunch. Whenever we had a request they went out of their way to help us - always with a big smile. There’s a mile or two of trails on the property, which take you over suspension bridges and through a field with a friendly horse named Preciosa. Our room was a little dark but large and clean and with a fireplace. Food is good - it got a little samey after a few days but we asked for things off the menu and they went on special grocery trips just for us - no mean feat since the nearest town is 40 mins drive away. We stayed a whole week in the end. You can walk to the local national Park reserve next door on the trail. Surprisingly good wifi.
