Unfortunately, our stay at Carao Project was not that pleasant. The nature and surroundings are very nice. The houses are rather large and have beautiful terasses.
However, there are also negative points to mention. Throughout our 3 night stay we never met the owner; the staff don't speak a word in English. The attitude was ok, but it was not particularly friendly or welcoming.
Breakfast was really medium at best; omlette warmed up in a microwave and salty; no fruits or even a glass of juice included (unless one picks fruit salad option). Initially they wanted us to pay extra for our four year old's breakfast - this did not happen to us so far no-where in Costa Rica. 
Dinner was also rather poor, saulty, too oily and over-cooked; there are certainly better places to try, e.g., the see-food plate.
The rooms could definitely have been cleaned better; there were spider webs above the bed, lime in the sink. When we asked for clean bed sheets and room service, in the evening we found out that the same used sheets have been simply put over the beds. 
One of the biggest problem was the many bugs and insects, and mosquitos - houses have large slits and broken mosquito nets, so insects kept coming in. We could not have any peaceful night sleep. Lamps above the beds are really unreasonable - bugs and insects kept falling in our beds from above.
No reading lamp and no possibility to read. The more basic house with a forest view was not equipped with any kitchen utensiles like plates etc.
Lastly, the swimming pool was full of tree barks etc, and even once had three dead crabs inside.
Next to our hut was a dog who constantly kept barking every time we went outside/returned.
All in all, a nice place to be in the midst of the nature, but certainly not a place we would wish to return.
Apparently, the owners/managers of the place have changed since the last positive reviews and with that also the general attitude and service.

Not meeting the expectations

I stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I had been to this property years prior before there was any cabins or restaurants and remember how beautiful the area was. The short walk to the beach through the forest is so nice. I loved my cabin. the balcony was mosquito netted. Nice pool and great food at their restaraunt. Most enjoyable .. the staff. So nice everyone was. Victor came on his dayoff to drive me to carrillo for my interbus shuttle pick up. how sweet is that? 
Special place.

Amazing place

This property is so amazing! I had the pleasure of traveling here with my fiancé in August. We came to relax, explore, and eat unique, tasty food. The property is surrounded by beautiful trees and various foliage. There are beautifully crafted casitas scattered throughout. If you look closely you will see a large iguana who chills around. My favorite was hearing the howler monkeys, so neat to listen to everyday.
Just a short walk down a trail to the beach we hung out for sunset and listened to the waves crashing, it was great. Back at the lounge/ pool area/ restaurant we ate delicious meals made from scratch. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. The cooks were so nice and the food was freaking delicious. I was so thankful it was just a short walk from my bed. The pool was so refreshing along with a cold beer, I didn’t want to leave.
We truly loved the Carao Project and will be back. We were so stoked on it, we didn’t venture out much. From what we saw of the local area, Samara, was great. Next time we want to explore the country more.

Wow! Just what the Dr. ordered.

If you are looking for peace and tranquillity this is a destination you would truly enjoy. From waking to the sound of Howler monkeys to the black sand beach, this place is unique. The staff is very friendly and happy to make you a meal that tastes as wonderful as it looks. There are no pictures or words that can describe the true beauty of Carao Project. We are looking forward to going there again.

Amazing place and great hospitality. Beautiful place to stay and well maintained. The host went out of their way to ensure we are comfortable and provide service
