Santo Domingo International Hotel Zhangjiajie

The hotel is known as Santo Domingo International Hotel. See Santo Domingo International Hotel Photo 01.  "Shengduoming" is actually the Romanised form of "Santo Domingo" in Chinese.
Our room had everything we needed & more, e.g. fire escape hood, room slippers, bathroom slippers.  But lighting was rather dim.  Even worse, light at entrance was not working unless the entrance door was open, making it difficult to identify switches there.  Breakfast room had insufficient seats and tables.  Food was adequate for us.

Room lighting was  rather dim

big hotel in town. Walking distance to theater and center of the city. Hotel is a bit old. Breakfast was not nice. They should add more varian on drink and food. I don' feel it is 4 or 5 star hotel. It just big hotel only.

The Shengduoming International Hotel is barely adequate; no more.  Read on for details.

The hotel has an immediate powerful "book by it's cover" appeal on entering the cavernous lobby; it does look impressive.  And, in February, it was impressively cold as it was unheated.  The rooms were small but not cramped.  The furniture was modern and tasteful.  The bathroom was newly refurbished and modern.  There were plenty of electric outlets as well as a few USB outlets; nice touch.

Where the room fell short were the beds which were as hard as boards, boards with a thin pad.  Adding discomfort to discomfort, the pillows were thin.  As a result, the nights were long and uncomfortable.

Also missing: coffee as in there were no means to make coffee in the room (though a couple types of tea were present.)

The breakfast buffet was completely skewed towards the Asian palate.  While the noodles and potatoes with pork were tasty for breakfast, I really wanted a non-sweet cereal and yogurt with fresh fruit.  The fresh fruit option was limited to cut pieces of apple.

The only coffee available was pre-mixed, sweetened with already-added milk.  IT was not something I would drink out of choice.

Worse still, the dining area was also unheated and you had to dress as if you were going outside.  Very uncomfortable.

The WiFi was adequate but, as this is China, if you plan on accessing many Western sites, you wlll need a VPN.

I would not return.

Uncomfortable and Falling Short on Too Many Levels

So the hotel isn't bad, but nobody seems to speak English there. Luckily we had a Chinese speaking guide so we did receive a pretty good service. Did have to switch rooms because the first one had a huge cockroach on the headboard! The second room on higher floor was clean. The breakfast was very good. The hotel itself is a little out of the way, but still you can walk to the restaurants. One thing to mention - the beds are very (and I mean VERY) firm. I understand it is customary and most of their guests are local. Just a little heads up for foreigners. If you are not used to sleeping on the table you might be uncomfortable.

Not Internatinal.

Got to hotel and we had booked through China highlights-were given 3 rooms on 2nd floor near open atrium that you could hear everything in lobby. Asked to switch higher up-which we had asked at checkin and had been told there were no rooms. Not until we threatened to check into another hotel were we moved. New room-carpet dirty, lots of street noice-shower would not drain. Would tell you to stay away!!!!
