Tianhaiyun Hotel

For me, I thought the place was AMAZING!!! But not because of the room. More so because it was literally a 3 minute walk from the beach and there was great seafood options all over (don't eat at the restaurant connected to the hotel though cause it is 30% more expensive than the restaurant right across the street) and it really made me feel at home (i'm from San Diego). However, my Chinese wife couldn't stand the room. The beds were lumpy and it just had a really shabby feeling to it. I didn't mind any of this, but that's because I've spent months in the Philippines getting drunk till I passed out on the floor. For my wife though, she wanted to move to another hotel after the first night. We didn't though cause the closest hotel with international standards was twice the price and she couldn't bring herself to "waste" the extra cash. Anyway, it's definitely better than a 168 but it's no 5 star hotel. I'd recommend it, but my wife definitely would not. One more thing, the hotel is about a 20 minute drive from the city center and the "Old Street" which is a must at least once, but I wouldn't recommend living in that part of the city unless you are going to Beihai to shop. P.S. Try to get a room with a view of the beach. We got a room with a view of someone's backyard and it definitely dampened the experience ever so slightly.
