stayed for 1 night - a last minute booking during lockdown in the town. the owner/staff were very helful and did all theuy could to help us. cannot fault their efforts in such uncertain times. a old fashioned hotel that does the job as it says on the tin i guess.

helpful team and good location

Stayed here two nights on way to Antarctica. First night I checked in late - at 2330 hrs - and stood out in the cold ringing the bell that was answered by a sleepy caretaker after 6-7 minutes. The single room had three beds that give the room an appearance of a hostel dorm. It was extremely cold as the heating was not turned on. Modest breakfast of two roasts with two slices of ham and cheese - and juice and tea. Location is good - a block away from plaza de Armas and 7 minutes walk to the Magellan Strait. Room had a tv and hair dryer. Tap water is potable.

The rooms were small, and they had 4 beds tightly crammed into them. I tripped while walking across the room more than once. You could hear cars outside the room, because the walls weren’t thick. The hotel seemed old and in need of renovation. 

We had a airplane to catch and had to leave at 4:45 am. One worker woke up early to make us breakfast and help us get a taxi, even though we didn’t pay him!

Extremely nice service

The hotel looked very old from both the inside and outside. We stayed in the room with four beds, and it was very cramped with not much space in between the beds. The staff were friendly and all spoke English. We had a flight the next morning and had to leave by 4:30AM, but the staff were kind enough to wake up early to make breakfast for us and call a taxi that could hold all of our luggage. The price was a little expensive, but the location of the hotel is very close to the Plaza de Armas.

Friendly and helpful staff

This hotel is very well located within easy striking distance of the central square and the centre. The cleanliness of the room we had is not in question, nor is the comfort of the beds however there are several updates and modifications that would improve the place. The room we had was facing onto the street and the sound proofiing is not good. The curtains did not fit the windows so light from the front signage kept the room illuminated all night. There is a rather incongruous piped music systems which plays on the landing area and in your room if you care to turn up the volume control (we didn't). But one evening it was left on out on the landing into the early hours when residents would probably want to be asleep. And then there was the erratic central heating system which came on at 1am and turned the room into a sauna, so much so that we had to go down and ask for it to be sorted out.  The breakfasts are probably standard Chilean fare but they are dull, no variety and unappealing.  

All in all, the hotel was relatively comfortable but not value for the money we paid for it.

Rather disappointing

Most hotels in Punta Arenas were booked out when we arrived, so we ended up at Hotel Mercurio. Looks quite nice from outside, inside is pretty dated but nothing wrong with it. We had a twin room with bathroom. The bathroom is s generous size. Breakfast included. No restaurant, but there are plenty within a short walk.
There is off-street parking if you have a car or motorcycle.
Slightly expensive for what it is, but this seems normal for the area.
