Our 25th Anniversary in Stratford

Fabulous facility, thoughtful and attentive hosts.  It doesn't get better.  Oh, and i almost forgot the delicious, creative and plentiful breakfasts!  We've been Stratford fans for decades, trying many different accommodations.  But for the last eight years it's been exclusively Avery house.

We have returned to Avery House for several visits and have loved each one. John and Amanda are exceptional hosts who truly care about their guests. We have stayed several different suites, each one is a unique oasis. Breakfasts are outstanding celebrations of local produce that John weaves into a delightful experience. We will be returning next year!

A Gem in Stratford

Avery House is perfectly located for easy access to theatres, downtown retail stores and restaurants. The rooms and suites are nicely decorated and very clean, and some have a private deck or balcony. Our group - three couples - time our visit to the Stratford Festival for the same week each summer. We feel welcomed and well looked after! John and Amanda are great hosts!

Avery House - a gem of a B&B

Another wonderful stay at Avery House!  It has been our go to B&B for many years and for many reasons.  The location is perfect for walking to downtown Stratford and to all the theatres.  The rooms are clean and attractive with comfortable beds, great linens, and many other amenities that make for a welcoming stay.  The breakfasts are a gourmet treat thanks to John and his delicious recipes, homemade jams, and attention to detail.  The large dining table makes for the perfect setting for interesting conversations with fellow guests.  Amanda is the ideal hostess.  She is ever so accommodating with check-in and suggestions for lunch, dinner, and things to do. 

The Ideal Stratford B&B

John and Amanda were the consummate hosts, friendly and welcoming.  In the weeks before we came, they had kept us informed of restaurants in the area so we could book in advance.  The B&B is a stately old house with high ceilings and lovely decor.  Our room was very comfortable and quiet.  Breakfast was gourmet and divine, and it was nice to mix with other guests and share theatre experiences.  We highly recommend Avery House, and look forward to staying there again.  (Thank you for the muffin recipe, John!)

A bit of heaven

Nothing but good to say about Avery House. Wonderful, responsive hosts with beautifully appointed rooms in a perfect location - about the middle point between the four Stratford Festival theaters. Highly recommended. We stay there for two weeks every year.

Warm, welcoming, beautiful rooms, convenient to the theaters

We travel to Stratford at least twice every season for the Festival. For several years we’ve been staying at Avery House, mainly in the Sanctuary Suite. Amanda  and John are wonderful, considerate hosts and the setting is lovely. It’s easy to get to the Theatres and downtown locations from Avery. Amanda and John are also a great resource for local restaurants, shops and non-Festival events. We always recommend Avery House to friends contemplating a Stratford visit.

A Perfect  Place to Stay in Stratford

We just had another delightful stay at Avery House, our fourth. John and Amanda are gracious hosts. Amanda is always accommodating — and  helpfully knowledgeable of all Stratford doings. John, meanwhile, makes the most scrumptious breakfasts. They’re served somewhat family style, so you can have only what you want, and only as much as you want, which is perfect for us, since we don’t usually eat huge breakfasts. We have a favorite room, the Cocoa Beach Suite, in the back of the main house on the ground floor. It has a comfortable outdoor deck to relax on between shows, meals, shopping, and other Stratford fun. Avery House is very well located, a short-ish stroll one way to the Festival Theatre, a short-ish stroll another way to Downtown Stratford, and only a slightly longer stroll to the spectacular new Tom Patterson Theatre. An air of warm and friendly civility permeates this place. Have we ever encountered a fellow guest who wasn’t as nice and interesting as could be? Seriously: No! We’ve occasionally gotten so wrapped up in the breakfast chatter that we’ve come close to getting off-schedule. (Though there must be the occasional pain-in-the-rear guest.) If I have any complaint about Avery House, it’s that, while lazing on the outdoor deck in back, we can hear some traffic from the busy street in front — but don’t let this scare you off; it’s really not bad. After hours it’s always very quiet inside, and I always sleep like a baby in the big, comfy king bed. On this visit I happened to mention, to my wife’s enthusiastic agreement, that we wish we could find an inn as nice and reasonably priced as Avery House in all of our favorite haunts. We highly recommend this inn.

Another Delightful Stay

Our first time at this B&B, highly recommended by our good friend DM. We received a warm welcome from Amanda, who explained all the necessary details and showed us to our lovely, spacious room. It was a very hot weekend but air conditioning kept our accommodation cool and comfortable. We also appreciated access to a fridge stocked with filtered water, just outside our room. We met up with friends already staying here from earlier in the week. Such a beautiful old home with a great location--we could easily walk to all the Stratford Festival theatres, parks, and downtown shops and restaurants. Wonderful communal breakfasts prepared by John are served in the dining room where lively conversation was exchanged with the other guests. The food was delicious, ample, and locally sourced! Such a memorable experience for our first "official" vacation since 2019. We hope to be back again! Thanks to our very special hosts, Amanda and John.
