Wanna have a good experience at Paraty and spend low money? I highly recommend to visit the “Paraty Beach Hostel”. 
The reception is very well done by Mr. Frango and his wife. This is a very cozy place where you can feel at home.
After a good rest, you can have a nice breakfast at the beachfront to start your day visiting the places at Paraty with your energies totally restored.

Excellent place for a low fee 

A wonderful little hostel about a 15 minute walk from the main bus station. The supermarket is just by the bus station. Situated right on the beach and tucked away in a quiet corner, it was a lovely little spot. The staff at the hostel were great and really friendly, along with the hostel dog who spent his whole day in the ocean! There are a couple of restaurants a stones throw away. The hostel normally puts food on for a cheap price most evenings and they've got a bar ready for beers or caipirinhas. The beds were comfortable and the rooms had air con. The place was cheap to stay with a nice little common area and hammocks available to lounge in. 

Paraty Beach Hostel 

I've stayed in many hostels during my travels but never have I met such a rude owner in my life... After one of my jeans got lost in the  laundry as well as one of my bras being broken in half, we explained to the owner that it did not seem fair that we would be paying for the laundry. To this the owner replied by saying that he has had this happen multiple times and that he could not actually know that the items got lost, and therefore did not really care about our explanation. When telling him that we knew for sure that we put that item in and that he had no grounds for not trusting us as we had been having a great time with the staff and had done nothing to wrong him in any way. The owner reacted very arrogant and belittling: saying he didn't care about the money, it was only 8 euros for him, that he had already had 30000 people stay at his hostel, and that it must be difficult for us to pay those 8 euros since we're travelling in Brazil and all, even saying he was annoyed that his staff had waken him up for this (at 10am). All of this was extremely uncalled for, in our opinion this is not how guests in a hostel should be addressed. Furthermore, if he has had this problem multiple times and does not feel like he can trust his guests then maybe he could start using the highly sophisticated technique of counting the items in the laundry, writing it down on a piece of paper and attaching it to the laundry bag. Staff were great at the hostel by the way, they were extremely embarrassed by everything and apologized multiple times when we left. However, he did not seem to care about them and was belittling towards them as well. Very horrible person to be around in general...

I wouldn't recommend this hostel to anyone. The only reason they've got guests is because they're the cheapest in Paraty, however I definitely would pay more money to go to another hostel. 

Rudest/ most arrogant owner ever!!

We stayed here after reading pretty good reviews but were shocked by what we discovered. The whole place is really run down and utterly filthy. 
We stayed in the four bed dorm with it's own bathroom that looked like it had not been cleaned in a long time. There was a layer of dust and grime over everything. The toilet seat was also faulty and the lid would not stay up on it's own. The lockers to store our stuff were completely broken as was the air conditioning which, along with the Mosquitos, made it impossible to sleep.
The communal kitchen is a health hazard as is the breakfast they serve, which is completely covered in flies while left out in the sun for hours.
The staff seemed more bothered about playing FIFA into the night than looking after guests - many of whom were unwell, no doubt down to the lack of hygiene in the place.
The lack of a security is also concerning - there was often no one on the front desk and no locks anywhere.

Horrible.

My partner and I booked a mixed bed dorm through the hostels website and  arrived checked into our room and spent one intrupted night. The following night we arrive back after dinner to that I have been kicked out of my room because of a mistake. Apparently we were put in an all female room as an upgrade and another female client complained. So 11pm I had to move. Running a backpackers in thailand I understand mistakes happen but this was not acceptable. We were made to feel like we were lucky for our upgrade. Cool hostel buts staff need some  training.
