Ouro Preto

Great place to stay, away from the hustle and bustle of all the tourists in the town. The proprietress, Maria, puts seed and fruit out for the birds each morning. The gardens are a great spot to watch for some fantastic birds of the area. We saw tanager’s, doves, hummingbirds, and Maria says a guan comes by to visit sometimes as well. The breakfast is very good with fresh eggs, bread, butter, cheese, fruit, and local jams. The rooms are very simple.

Great birding spot 

A beautiful refuge in the middle of the forest with a great view of the main square from the breakfast nook. Arrived late afternoon and were the only people there so the very kind hostess offered us one of the top floor rooms with a small terrace with a hammock & view. It was perfect for our family - comfortable and quaint, next to the fully equipped kitchen where breakfast was served daily.   The kids loved all the birds and monkeys they hand fed.
Being up on a hill I wouldn’t recommend it to people with mobility issues - that said, we walked all over town from there.  Would definitely stay here again. Muito obrigado!

Great little spot

This is a good low cost choice, small rooms, good showers, no heating in rooms. You can cook your own meals, and a good breakfast buffet is offered each morning. You can walk here from the bus station if you know the route. You can also walk into the heart of Ouro in 10-12 minutes if you know the route. The location feels tranquil and remote, but is really quite convenient to the city center. The owner is Buddhist and has some sculptures set in the garden around the inn. The kitchen is the congenial gathering spot with guests readily striking up conversations with the staff or with other guests.

Nós ficamos 4 noites e foi excelente. 

Ficamos 2 noites num quarto simples mas muito confortável e 2 noteis num quarto maior e com sacada. Os quartos e banheiros são bem limpos. Tbm tem uma cozinha com fogão e geladeira onde podemos cozinhar.

O café da manhã com pão francês, pão de queijo, queijo, frutas, geleias, chás, café estavam delicioso e foi um privilégio de poder admirar a paisagem de ouro preto. 

Maria e seu time são muito simpáticos e nos trataram com muito carinho, agente se sentiu em casa.

A pousada está num lugar lindo, no meio da mata e está cheio de passarinhos, beija-flores. Até uma família de 5 macaquinhos vieram visitar no qual uma surpresa maravilhosa.

Eu recomendo a pousada é assim que voltarmos para ouro preto ficaremos com eles!

The Pousada is in a beautiful location and it has stunning views over the town.

Having delicious typical breakfast of bread, cheese bread, cakes, jam, cheeses, fruits whilst enjoying the views and being visited by various birds and humming birds was lovely.

The room was simple but very comfortable and clean. There was no fan or air con on our room but in the evenings is cool enough so there was no need. We were happy to sleep with open windows as there was no mosquitos around! The wifi was good and they also have clean drinking water available!

They have a kitchen with fridge and cooker which is open to guests to use and hang out which we used a lot. Laundry service is also available.  In addition, there is a lovely patio with hammocks and by the entrance there are four beautiful statues of wolves in honour of the wolves from a sister town. 

Maria, Vinicios and their team speak limited English but they are very friendly and hospitable. They made us feel completely at home. 

I highly recommend staying with them with you visit the town! We surely hope to make it back soon!



Excelente 

Excellent location: 5-minute walk from bus terminal, but still feels secluded in a jungle-like setting that overlooks the central Praça Tiradentes, which is just a 10-minute walk away. 

Friendly: The owner and his staff were very welcoming, gregarious, helpful, knowledgeable. 

Clean: Clean room, clean bathroom, clean grounds, clean kitchen. Spacious. Airy. Good feng shui. Bohemian vibe. 

Big buffet breakfast: coffee, bread rolls, queijo minas, jam, pão de queijo, several cakes, mango, banana, coffee. It's set out in the kitchen/veranda area that has a beautiful view of central Ouro Preto and Pico do Itacolomi. 

Cheap: 35 reais for a bed in a 4-bed shared room. I reserved by email one day in advance, but larger groups told me they'd booked weeks in advance because this pousada is very popular among both foreigners and locals. I was the sole foreigner staying here during the second weekend in July; the rest were Brazilian travelers, all very friendly.

Hard to believe

Green and tranquil place, awesome in every detail! 2 buildings in a garden full of trees and flowers. Beds comfortable, showers clean and warm, kitchen user-friendly. Location close to bus terminal, close to the town centre but not in its heart. Staff freindly, e.g. they let me used their computer when I couldn't catch wifi on mine (computer fault, not theirs;)). Breakfast big and satiating. Eating a fresh fruit on a balcony with stunning views and singing birds - that would be a scene capturing the essence of the 'pousada'.

We stayed here for three nights mid week in Autumn and almost had the place to ourselves. We were arriving and leaving Ouro Preto by bus fully laden with big backpacks. The bus station is up high above town but luckily so is this place. Following hostel signs and instructions from  the Lonely Planet we were there in less than five minutes. Awesome location with stunning views over town.

Sure, of course you then had to tackle the steep cobblestones to go down into town and back up but this is fine without luggage! The whole of Ouro Preto is steep and cobbled so wherever you stay you will not avoid this.... wear trainers and take your time :-)

We stayed in a room downstairs with a private bathroom... clean with hot water and towels. The room was comfortable with blankets for the chilly nights and the hammock outside was perfect for relaxing with a book or watching the birds or monkeys if you're lucky :-) as lovely as it was to visit the town it was always lovely to return to this tranquil spot with amazing views. The kitchen was good and we prepared evening meals there. The included breakfast was fine and the staff were helpful. Maria spoke some English and we seemed to manage with bad Spanish with her husband :-) The wifi didn't work downstairs but worked fine in the breakfast area and best in reception.
