We stayed here for 4 nights.  The view was great and the balcony was a nice addition, the room was airy and light as it had so many windows.  Beds and pillows were comfortable.  This hotel is in the middle of the main strip though and it's always busy - by day and especially at night.  Music was booming every night until at least 2am. You could block most of the noise out by closing all the doors and windows and putting the fan on.  This is not the hotel for you if you want a quiet room though. We just suffered it as we couldn't be bothered to move!  The room was cleaned daily with new towels etc.  There was usually an old lady in reception to help with any queries, she spoke no English but Google Translate worked every time.  It's a very cheap hotel so great value for money. I just hated the overtourism on Cat Ba and will never return.

Got there and the instructions were poor no one seemed to know what was going on... went up two flights of stairs to a lift which isn’t suitable if you’re disabled. The lift floor had cardboard all over it. Went to our room. Looked okay but 1 tiny blanket to cover a double bed.. the smell was absolutely vile... musty and mouldy! The bed were rock hard and one of them was broken.. the shower was okay until someone went into our room to turn the hot water off on the first night while we were out? Had trouble with it from then on. The floor was marble which when wet was sloppy and the bathroom was dangerous. Toilet roll? One roll between the four of us? The 3rd night me and my friend went to leave and the front door locked.. what if there’s a fire? We had to wake the owners up to get out.. pitched black no consideration. The towels were tiny and there was no cleaning service. No new towels and the air con didn’t work. The owners are rude and didn’t understand anything we were saying.. avoid at all costs.

Clean and down to basic . the room had a huge sliding window so you could enjoy a beer at night looking over the habour.

simple life - GREAT view !!

Across from the harbor with great views!  SMALL balcony better than no balcony.  Bigger than average room, fridge works fine.  Typical bathroom with no shower stall and things get wet after a shower.  $10 a night works for me.
CONS:  Road noise, and we know how Vietnamese love their horns.  Disco noise, off in the distance.  Bathroom fan didn't work and accompanying smell was not pleasant. Told the "manager" about the fan and he shrugged.  No action taken.  Laundry service took a day longer than planned.  "Manager" seemed upset that I wouldn't book tours with him.
I'd probably stay here again since I found all Cat Ba hotels lacking.  BUT I'd try to avoid Cat Ba Tourist Town on the whole.

Great View!!

I stayed here a couple years ago and it was good for what we paid. Myself and 2 friends paid $3USD each a night in a big room with views looking out over the bay. However the service was what you'd expect for $3. My friend had some washing done and it was returned with bugs all through it. When he brought this up with staff, they apologised but didn't seem to care at all. The owner also kept trying to pressure us to buy one of his boat trips.
