If you're looking for a budget, no-frills, but clean and safe, hotel for a night or two, then this establishment can be considered. The rooms are bright and of a reasonable size, but pretty basic. As others have pointed out, it is off the beaten track as far as the main sights are concerned, so be prepared to walk longish distances or rely on transport. A real plus : we found the staff very friendly and helpful.

Budget, no-frills.

New hotel with very pretty and comfortable rooms in a quite residential area of Samarkand. The rooms are very neat and clean, with TV, conditioner and pretty big bathrooms. By itself, the hotel is very warm, but in the room you can find additional warm blankets. Also they provide every room with tea making facilities. The breakfast is self-service buffet with a great variety of hot dishes, yogurt, dairy foods, fruits, vegetables, nuts and desserts. The wifi is paid and available only in the hotel lobby. The only problem is that the location of the hotel is far away from the historical center and it takes pretty much time to get to the main Samarkand sights by foot. Also, the route to the hotel is goes through the residential area where sometimes at night there is no lighting on the streets, which could be unsafe for individual travelers.

Paid wifi, far away location

We were booked into this hotel in Samarkand by our tour group organisers and spent three nights here with our small group (7 of us). The rooms were comfortable, and the self-service buffet style breakfast was pleasant.
The hotel is situated in a suburban residential area, some distance from the main tourist sights of Samarkand. It is quiet at night, and we didn't mind the opportunity the location gave us for the long walks that were required for exploring on foot. Others may prefer to stay closer to the Registan.
An additional payment was required for wi fi (however we discovered that if one person from the group paid for access, the others could use the same password, and one payment lasted for the duration of our stay).
Also, as we discovered on our trip through Central Asia, it's not typical to have an iron or tea making facilities in the room. The staff at Majestic Palace happily obliged my request to use their ironing room, however I realised soon after this stay that it's cheap and easier to just pay for the laundry service!
