We stayed at this cozy, welcoming, lodge for 4 nights while skiing. It’s an easy walk to the gondola (even in ski boots) and a block or two into quaint Telluride, restaurants, shops. The staff is helpful, accommodating to early check-in, late check-out, and so friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable.  It was fun meeting other guests in the common kitchen/lounge while enjoying a plentiful breakfast or making your own. The hot tub provided a soothing soak after a day on the slopes. We will stay here the next time!

We absolutely loved our experience at the Manitou Lodge. The proximity to the free town gondola plus town lifts is amazing and the staff at the Lodge were super friendly and helpful. We came with a number of questions and they answered them all. We also loved the breakfast. It was filling and had lots of options for everyone's needs, plus good, fresh coffee. The hot tub was hot and a good spot to relax. The rooms had extras like humidifiers to make your stay better. If you're considering this place go for it!

They have everything - book it!

The lodge itself is very cozy and warm. Has a common kitchen with a sitting area where u can relax and mingle with the rest of the people. 

Breakfast is simple but yet filling and refreshing. 

Location is superb. Next to a lovely trail along the river. And the Main Street is walking distance. 

I would go back to this lodge again for sure.

Homely even when you are away from home.

Prior to my stay here, I read reviews from all over - Yelp, Google, Trip Advisor...they made me a little skeptical and I kind of braced for the unknown. Much to my surprise & relief, it was a great place!
First of all, ignore any review complaining about responsiveness of staff or the office location. That has been remedied by an Innkeeper living onsite. Retta was amazing - she's present all day long so if you need anything you can ask her in person.
But let me start with access - yes, you have to park in a little lot and walk. But it's maybe half a block? You go over a wide bridge, turn right and follow the sidewalk directly up to the lodge. There are a couple steps but I just pulled my wheeled suitcase up and there you go! Arrived! I mean, what kind of place has everyone complaining about the distance stayed? You always have to park and walk through a parking lot, lobby, etc. to get to a room. If you want to park right outside your door, stay a a motel or an Airbnb.
Note, we arrived at 10pm when it was pretty much pitch black outside and found the lodge easily. So I am sure others can do it, especially when it is day time.
Yes, the interior of the building feels like it was built in the 70s or 80s. I mean, that's probably when it was built. But it was clean. Seriously - the shower had a glass surround which I would never use in lodging because glass just begs for soap scum issues. This? Not a spot. It was so clean - I actually asked Retta how in the world she kept it so clean and she said it was just vinegar & water...and elbow grease.
Yes, the bedding was a little tired, but it was clean.
There were nice branded robes in our closet, extra blankest, a humidifier (which always kinds of freaks me out b/c they can get notoriously gross and moldy but this was super clean), space heater, ironing board, and extra pillows.
Our room was directly across from the kitchen and lounge but we were never bothered by any noise. It actually made it feel even more homey because I could just pop out our door and over to the kitchen to grab breakfast.
There were always some sort of goodies in the kitchen area - from ham & cheese breakfast croissants, fruit, coffee, juice, snacks like trail mix in individually sealed bags, granola bars, cheese & meat boards at happy hour, chocolate chip cookies...
The little living room/lounge area had a fireplace, comfy seats, a big tv, and there were big windows and a door out to the large deck along the river. Just a few steps beyond that is the building with the hot tub.
I personally like hot tubs exposed to the elements and being right on the river, you could imagine how nice it would be to hear & see the river if the tub wasn't enclosed, but it probably helps hugely with maintenance to have it enclosed. There are windows you could open to hear the river, but we just took a quick soak & didn't mess with them.
Our room looked out onto the trail along the river so we could watch dogs go by and the view was of aspens & the surrounding mountains. We never once needed our vehicle - once we parked we left it until the day we departed.
I saw someone mentioned not being able to secure their door from the inside - we had a chain for our door and once you closed it, the only way to open from the outside would be to use the door code. But again, having an innkeeper living onsite you never felt unsafe.
The only downside I would mention is that because of the year the building was constructed, it has the usual noise issues like hearing every step in the room above you, and we hard some banging around in a room next to us but generally everyone was cognizant of trying to respect each other and not making excessive or unnecessary noise. Use a white noise app on your phone if every little sound is going to bug you.
I enjoyed my experience at the Manitou Lodge. It wasn't a swanky resort, but they don't market themselves as that. It was cozy, clean, convenient. Retta is doing a great job and I hope Alpine Lodging realizes what an asset they have in her.

Pleasantly surprised

First the good points. Great location within steps of the gondola and right in the middle of Telluride. The sound of the river directly outside the window was very nice also.
Getting to the rooms was difficult to say the least.  It was raining when we arrived and we had to carry our suitcases over a dirt path, over a wooden over pass, up and down another set of steps, then up two flights of stairs to 2nd floor. This is not the place for a family with older people.  The lighting in the room was poor, you couldn't secure the door from the inside, there were very few outlets, and there was very little space to move around inside the small room. The room set up was also kind of peculiar.  They spent a lot on oars, fishing poles and other items to decorate the room with, I think the money could have been better spent elsewhere.  Also if u needed something the office was 5 blocks away.

Not for older people 

Manitou Lodge is an odd setup, with individual units on 2 floors and a common shared ground floor living area with full kitchen. The building setting next to the river along the river trail is lovely, and it is very convenient to the Gondola, the Oak St Lift, and downtown Telluride. But there is no parking, and the building is reached by crossing the river on a footbridge. The building is very noisy from adjacent units—voices and footfalls. Unit #6 on the 2nd floor has a loft queen bed, and lower living room with mini fridge & coffee maker, with views of the river. It was in acceptable condition, and the bed was comfortably firm. But oddly, there is a bathtub (covered) in the living room—what?? The unit came with a Town parking permit, but that parking is scarce, so expect to unload at the footbridge and park blocks away. Wifi connected easily, but often became unresponsive. The hot tub was out of order—awaiting parts, and we were not informed in advance. So, a just okay stay, not good enough to recommend.

Many Issues

Really loved our time at the Manitou Lodge.  Great location allows you to walk everywhere in town.  Parking was a little bit of a hassle but that's a Telluride issue.  Room was small but worked for 2 adults and 2 kids.  The common kitchen area and outside patio was a nice touch.  The hot tub was also great and was put to good use.   Lodging prices in Telluride are insane, this was a great value.

Great location, great time

Definitely DO NOT stay in unit #1 as location is right next to front door & stairs. The relentless noise from guests coming & going unfortunately never ends. This is NO exaggeration, even at 4 am, guests coming back from the bars - extremely loud, obnoxiously drunk, yelling, slamming the doors, running up & down the stairs. Didn’t sleep all night. 

Manitou Lodge unit #1

My son and I stayed at the Manitou in room #5 from 12/19-12/24/2020 for a skiing vacation.  The room was clean and as pictured online.  The view of the mountains from the room is very nice.  It’s location for access to the slopes was great.  Can ski right to lift #8 and the gondola station area.  Also, you can easily walk to liquor store, grocery store, restaurants, and shops. 

Although the room has a maximum occupancy of 4, it’s really designed for a couple.  In the photo, what looks like a bed on the first level is not much more than pad on the cover of a bath tub. So, my son ended up sleeping on the couch.  Although not ideal it worked.  The common area kitchen was clean and well maintained.  The common hot tub was out of order while we were there and, talking to some folks who own a condo in the complex, we found out that it’s out of order quite a bit.

So, if you’re a couple looking for a clean place with good access to town and the slopes, the Manitou is probably a good place to stay.

The Manitou - Great Location - Units Made for Couples

We loved our room - very clean and great location.  We parked and didn’t need our vehicle until we left.  Yes, the room is small but still plenty of room for the 2 of us.  Short walk to gondola, downtown area and trails.  The river trail right outside is so pretty.
