We both have mobility issues, and because of the steepness of the location, and the steep garden, it was unsuitable for us. Because Bourne Hall had recently changed hands, the bedroom, bathroom, and much of the hotel were very tired. The food and staff, were very good. Sadly, we will not be going back. We've stayed many times in hotels on Keats Green in Shanklin, where it was more level, better placed for the amenities, and the hotels had a more modern decor.

Disappointed of Woodford Green.

Beautiful room with four poster bed,  chaise longe and sofa which an incredible sea view. Lovely old house with many original features. Breakfast was delicious and staff were excellent,  polite and friendly...........................

EXCELLENT

Had an amazing 2 night stay for Valentines last week; the hotel itself is really stunning, very picturesque and in a quiet location on a hill over looking the sea and can see Sandown from the restaurant window too. Lovely clean and comfortable room which was situated on the ground floor- as they knew upon booking that I’m disabled so it was great that they took on board what I said and made sure it was accessible without having to ask! The bed is so comfortable and a lovely spacious bathroom too! The staff are so so friendly and welcoming, they’re very polite and attentive at all times. The food is phenomenal, the best full English breakfast I’ve ever had in a hotel with a gorgeous pot of tea to wash it all down, just so delicious. All their food we tried was exceptional and was nice to see different specials on different evenings, clearly a wonderful chef and care about the customers, I have a severe shellfish allergy which they went above and beyond to assure me and tell me each precautionary step they took to ensure my safety, which is always a wonderful thing. Such a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere too! Will definitely be returning, thank you for a gorgeous stay!

A must stay location!!

Absolutley beautiful dinner at Bourne Hall Country House Hotel tonight. Carpaccio of beef, lamb rump & chocolate & orange cheesecake. Both of us ate all 3 courses which never happens such beautiful food tonight thank you guys! 💕 Very happy customers. And what a stunning place to have a meal,big thanks to Callum and Tom for waiting on us and doing a fab job, and Alex and Chris for such amazing food 10/10 in my books

Valentine's Day

We have just had a wonderful six night stay at the Bourne Hall Country Hotel.
Made very welcome by Tom on arrival, room comfortable, sea views and spotlessly clean and tidy as is all areas of the hotel.
Callum is superb, funny, polite and provided excellent attentive and efficient friendly service throughout.
The food was outstanding, a different interesting menu each night, all to the highest standard thanks to Alex. An incredible strawberry pavlova and homemade soups, one morning croissants not delivered and Alex made them from scratch, wonderful.
This is a beautiful small hotel in a very peaceful location, well kept gardens and seating areas plus outdoor pool.

Cannot recommend highly enough and we will certainly return.


A wonderful stay

My husband and I booked a 3 night stay. We arrived on Tuesday 12th September - on check in we were asked if we'd thought about dining at the hotel only for this question to be followed by "well we're fully booked for tonight because you need to book by 6pm the previous day" ( not mentioned at the time of booking). We were also asked if we wanted our room serviced every day - clearly this is not done as standard any longer.
Our first room (I'd requested a shower rather than shower over a bath) was absolutely filthy - the drawers were full of bits/hair and there was a thick layer of dust on the shelf in the top of the wardrobe, fortunately I'd spotted it before unpacking. The sealant in the shower was black and the room fan was also thick with dust on blades.
After informing reception, we were moved to another room (good job there was one) and although better, I removed several cobwebs from the bed canopy, window sills and between the bedside cabinet and wall (this is where a plug socket was so easily spotted). There were also a couple of stains on the carpet.
The bathroom had loose floor tiles too. Thank goodness we'd taken slippers to walk around the room.
At least the sheets and towels were clean and there was always hot water. 
Breakfast was good- enough choice of cooked and continental food.
Staff were friendly, if a little over the top.
I'm sure there are rooms that have been refurbished but we weren't in one of them so don't be fooled by the website - you might want to check before booking (we had rooms 3 and 14) as it is not fully representative of the hotel. 
Seemingly the owners have put in an application for planning permission for a single storey extension. I'd suggest refurbishing the rooms to a higher standard and definitely improve the level of cleanliness (and don't blame it on COVID!! because if anything, that should be a reason for it being spotless).
I'm not a fussy person but I do expect a good level of cleanliness as an absolute basic.
This review is not over exaggerated it is a fair representation of our stay. 

Disappointed!

The Bourne Hall holds a very special place in our hearts. We returned for a stay in August 2023 as we celebrated our second wedding anniversary, having got married at The Bourne Hall in 2021.
Although the hotel has changed ownership in that time, the warm welcome and exceptional service remains unchanged. We would like to thank Sarah, Callum, Emma and Tom for making our stay very special and memorable, and for all of the little touches throughout our visit. We were able to make use of the outdoor pool and enjoyed a drink in the newly-decorated bar area. We were also thrilled with the afternoon tea we had, one of the best ever! It was also a very reasonable price. Dinner and breakfast at the hotel were also lovely (highly recommend the pavolva for pudding!)
If you are looking for a romantic getaway, family stay or even a wedding venue, we couldn’t not recommend The Bourne Hall enough (and we do!) 
We look forward to returning many times over the years.

Couldn’t ask for more!

Very nice comfortable room. Nice garden. And the best is the staff. Superfriendly and helpfull. Always there to make the best of your stay. We really enjoyd the stay. Our children had a smaller room but even theirs was good. At breakfast they serve you the warm food. For the coffee I would advise to ask the cafetière as you do not like instant. But even that is already taken care of.

Probably best stay at the island.

Great hotel , Tom was great in reception at main desk and Alex with all the staff were really helpful and kind , the room was fine and clean , fully cooked English breakfast was great and so were cereals etc . Plenty of parking and swimming pool . Would recommend this great family run hotel . Thanks for a great wells stay . Keith .

Great family run hotel .

Staff are excellent and very friendly. Hotel is situated up a steep hill, not very good if you like a walk and are not strong in the legs.
The food was excellent during our stay (Breakfast and Dinner) except for the "continental breakfast" which we where given on our last morning due to leaving early for the ferry. It consisted of a yogurt, jam, butter and a Croissant plus a soft apple, no roll or cheese.
We had a singer/comedian on the Wednesday evening after dinner who was really good (well done Dave) everyone fully enjoyed the evening and I would love to know his full name.
our room was clean but lacked sockets for charging phones etc.
It is hoped the new owners have plenty of money fro refurbishment
