We booked a meal on Saturday night. We waited on the car park until our dinner booked time when we tried to enter the pub.
All  was in darkness with a locked door.
I phoned the the pub at 6.05 only to be told that they wouldn’t be opening due to staff shortage. I appreciate current problems with covid difficulties but a phone call/ email would have enabled us to make other arrangements,

You should have told us!!!!

Really enjoyed our Monday evening meal; a limited menu but very good burgers and great chips. New management, still settling in during their first week; we wish you well and enjoyed chatting with you and the chef :)

Friendly village pub

On arrival in Escrick this evening, my husband and I decided upon a walk round the village to find somewhere for food. We came across the Black Bull Inn, tucked away on Main Street. On entering we received a very warm welcome from the Landlord; Rich and the Landlady, whose name I am sorry to say I did not get. We ordered our food which took a little while to come but boy was it worth the wait?! Everything was cooked from scratch and was served piping hot and perfectly cooked and presented. My Fish Pie was absolutely delicious and my husband’s Roast Beef dinner was beautifully cooked with a great selection of freshly cooked vegetables.
The Inn is beautifully decorated and the ambience was fabulous. I cannot recommend it highly enough! If only we lived closer - we’d be there every night of the week! You won’t be disappointed.

What a fabulous find!

We stayed at the Parsonage hotel for a couple nights and decided to try somewhere else to eat on the Sunday for our afternoon meal.
We had to book ahead (Covid) which was easily done and it was only a 4/5min walk from the hotel so was a lovely wander down in the sunshine and easy to find. 
We ordered two beef roasts and had two pints and a soft drink (total £50) which I thought was a little steep but being from Newcastle I think everything’s just cheaper the further north you get and I forget this! Anyway, The Sunday dinner was probably one of the best I’ve ever had!! The vegetables were sooo delicious and the Yorkshire pudding huge! The chef was running the bar and front and kitchen and was very polite and pleasant. 
I’m so surprised there wasn’t more people in there because if it was our local and the food was that good we would easily be there every weekend or whatnot trying out different foods! Overall was a lovely find and nice welcoming pub! I’m sure if we come back to Escrick in the future we’ll be back! X

Great little pub

Excelent service! In particular Laura is a credit to the Black Bull she is so helpful and always polite and always has a smile on her face. She always remembers your name and makes your visit a pleasure!

Great Service

Visited last night 16th Oct. Under new ownership, went for drinks with a couple of friends. Looks smart, really good beer, friendly service. Going back with the family for a meal to check out the food but the menu looks really nice.

Nice under new ownership

Well this is our first time to this establishment and we will certainly revisit. Really friendly lady on the bar aswell as a “hello” from a guy sat trying to light the fire who i think also was part of the new management.

The problem is they are trying to rectify poor reviews on here from the previous management by attempting to pull this back up to where it should be & if it gains the support it deserves then they can easily focus on taking it upwards more so.

The meal we had was not only well presented,but perfectly cooked and above all else was filling.

The lady waiting on our table was really kind & had a good sense of humour which matters also in this type of establishment .

As ex publicans ourselves we can truly relate to this industry and understand that without strong support it will not survive and i for one will keep supporting it if this evenings meal is anything to go by.

Thank you all & that includes the kitchen team for such a lovely evening of food and drink and this will be our new visiting place for sure.

Well done to you all for trying to make good of what may of been once a bad situation and for your determination, you should pat yourselves on the back and rise above everything it throws at you.

If i had one gripe it would be the heating was not on and was slightly chilly but not enough to put us off.

First Time Visit

While on a half term holiday called at the Black Bull with my wife and two daughters for a meal. Found out it was under new management and it was their first night serving food. The food was first class and really good beer. The service was even better. Chris and his staff could not do enough for us and we were all made to feel really welcome. Shame we don't live local,would definitely be our choice of pub. 10/10 would definitely recommend!

Superb pub

I normally don’t write reviews, but since we have just had a lovely afternoon tea here today I needed to let everyone know.

This pub has changed management literally in the last few weeks, the new owners are Chris and Jo who are absolutely fantastic.

We had bought a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea for two, From the minute we walked in we was introduced to the lovely new owners. Who made us feel welcome and was happily chatting to our daughter Ava.

We knew the pub had been closed recently and we nearly didn’t use our groupon voucher because of the terrible reviews about previous management, but we are so glad we came.

Afternoon tea was freshly made, lovely presentation and all desserts was gorgeous, scones was my favourite. The new owners went an extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our afternoon tea, we sat next to the log burner so was a lovely atmosphere.

I would recommend this pub due to the new owners, and we will be back to try the main menu out for sure.

Under New Management-Afternoon Tea was lovely

We had a booking for 31 people today and the new owners were absolutely brilliant, we had pre-booked but somehow the booking had got lost in the change of management. However, they rose to the occasion and gave us a wonderful meal at short notice.  The food was well cooked and served in a friendly and polite manner.  We noticed an afternoon tea going to a table which looked scrumptious and some of us will be back for that!  Thank you to all the staff involved in making our lunch so enjoyable.
