It was a 10/10 experience accept from some little child called Tommy or something who was obsessed with touching my bum I enjoyed staying there had food and everything just Tommy kept licking me shout out to the lads Harry and Lewis big ups 💯💯💯💯

I stayed in the Old Vicarage B&B for four nights and although the decor is a little tired I found the room comfortable and extremely peaceful. I visited mid-week and out of season (February) and so hardly surprisingly I was the only guest. The only noise I heard was the sound of birdsong - extremely restful and relaxing. The breakfast was pre-ordered and available at a time to suit you. It was provided by Rosie who was very warm and welcoming and made me feel at ease. I appreciated this as I am female and was travelling alone. As I was riding I also got lunch included which was a great bonus and just as good as breakfast.

The B&B is right next door to the Churchtown Morgans riding stables, also owned and run by Rosie. I had a three day holiday which I couldn't have been more pleased with. Rosie cares deeply for all her horses and this clearly shows in the excellent facilities (including a newly built, light and airy indoor school which was ideal for doing groundwork without distractions), the well-run yard and the good health of the animals. The horses are not your standard, jaded riding school horses. They are treated with respect and consequently have retained their individual personalities and horsey zest for life.

The ethos of the stables is underpinned by the principle of natural horsemanship and indeed before I ever got on a horse to ride her I was able to get to know her (Ruby - she's a total star and Floosie - a blond bombshell!) by bringing in from the field, grooming and tacking up. I also did groundwork with both horses to set boundaries and develop mutual trust.

My instructor was Julia and she was extremely knowledgable and capable, as well as being friendly and patient. I am not a novice rider and I still learned a great deal from her. She has a deep understanding of horse psychology and an obvious passion for her job. We tailored the three days to my interests (I was particularly interested in Western) and I felt included and welcomed as a temporary member of the yard.

Overall I would say the holiday was excellent value for money and delivered more than I had hoped for. I would certainly go back and can't recommend Rosie, Julia and their beautiful Morgans highlighly enough.

B&B stay/ 3 day riding holiday

I loved it here, really the nicest owners, rose and John make you feel most welcome.
Just the perfect place to get away from it all. They make you feel at home, lovely clean rooms. Lots of history in the building. It is a lovely setting, peaceful and yet near to lots of interesting things. If you are a horse lover its a what we all dream of, caring people and lovely horses. Learn horsemanship and gain confidence in your riding as well.
If you are a non horse rider you would not even know they were nearby.
Breakfasts are brilliant, its just one of the best with the best of people!!

Should be six stars , brilliant value and if you love horse riding a hidden gem. If you do not, still delightful!!!

I loved it in St. Hilary at the Old Vicarage! HUGE room, brilliant breakfast, friendly owners, central location - what more could you ask? Absolutely nothing negative to say about the place! I'd definitely go again.

Quiet destination for a Bernard Walke Pilgrimage!

This was a delightful location in an very interesting home with character and a somewhat interesting history. Being the old vicarage it's history was tied up with the church during the early part of 20th century. Our hosts were were very welcoming and could not be more hospitable. The location was very rural, and as a result peaceful and quiet. Our room was fantastic and was very comfortable and well appointed with space to sit comfortably and relax with a cup of tea or coffee. Breakfast was a great treat and cooked to order. All in all the Old Vicarage can be highly recommended.

What a delight - charming country location

A  wonderful hotel , but that is almost an insult ..this is a home from home !!! John and Marilyn will do anything for you the decor is fantastic this is a real find ...I might keep it a secret. lovely breakfast and tremendous value for money please just go !! You will see it in a colour supplement soon ..or on TV its that good!!

POSITIVES

1. Lovely host - Rosie: accommodating breakfast requests (varied selection, needs specifying evening before). 

2. Generous breakfasts - good selection of foods- cooked really nicely. 

3. We stayed in Bishop’s room- nicest room in the house. Spacious, 2 split level rooms. Big bath, shower, plenty hot water (when you figure out how to turn on boiler on). 

4. Oldie decor but quite charming- ‘takes you back’

5. Room was clean

6. Bed was very comfortable 

7. Light- plenty of windows 

THINGS TO IMPROVE ON/ CRITIQUE 

1. Check in time is a bit inconvenient as it falls smack bang in the middle of the day (3-6)- therefore, quite restricting especially if you’re coming from afar (stressful to make it on time)

2. No information provided in the room: about the room itself, ‘rules’ of the house (apart from needing to use coasters for cups), where what is, how stuff works ( like operating hot water), hard to distinguish which tap is for hot/cold water

3. WiFi is Really bad- very frustrating for an accommodation that is quite far from ‘civilisation’ - property would greatly benefit of getting faster net

4. First impression of the house when you walk in is the musty smell in there the hall and second is a photo of a dog sign on the private door of what I presume is host’s quarters saying something like: dog watches here!?!?- a bit of a hostile sign tbh

5. Some of the lamps in the room are not working- important ones above dresser.

6. No outside lighting at the property- pitch dark. 

7. When on holiday the last thing one wants to do is put the alarm on for the morning as  breakfast is only until 9am and you have to be specific day before when exactly would you like to have it. This could potentially be a deal breaker for people so it would be fair to add this info at property booking sites.

8. Perhaps some quiet music at breakfast would add to the privacy of people’s conversations. As there is no other communication with the host after check in and breakfast is selected on a sheet of paper night before, breakfast time would be a nice opportunity for the host to ask if everything is ok with guests stay/room etc.

9. Pot halls within the grounds of the property as well as the lane peppered with quite deep ones on the lane leading to and from the property

10. As it is an old vicarage it would be nice to provide some information about the area/church history etc.

11. Big shame there is no outside area to sit down somewhere outside/ garden. For such a rural location that is a Big Minus 

12. Small fridge in the room for guests to keep their drinks cold- especially in summer would be good (again- rural- no shops nearby)

Oldie worldly- No outside area

Not suitable for experienced riders who are looking for a hacking holiday. 
We booked this holiday with the intention that we would spend three days hacking in the countryside and on the moors and were especially looking forward to riding on the beach. When we arrived, we were told that there were no beach rides, most of the hacking was on the road, and it was clear that instructors wanted to spend the majority of the day in the school. 
In the end we had to complain that this was not what we had asked for and booked. After this Rosie and the team made a huge effort to provide us with more hacking, but ultimately the area that they are situated in is not suitable for accessing the beach or the countryside easily on horseback.
To add to this, the BnB has been sold and replaced with two static caravans, these are a roof over your head but considerably basic with not much comfort. 
There was very little communication from the owners prior to arrival – no welcome email, detailed information on the holiday or even the postcode to find them.

Disappointing

Oh dear. I’ve tried to bite my tongue from a few years ago. Hate leaving negative feedback from anywhere that I and my daughters have stayed. The staff here sit around smoking all day, the rooms are far from clean and although the pre-ordered breakfast is plentiful I hate the pre order system. My children know what they want when they wake up, not the night before! John hostile and made us feel awkward and uncomfortable. Until we paid the bill and then a gent. Please avoid this place unless you have a thick skin. If you are a lover of horses and their comfort and your own, give it a miss. Mats and no bedding, sorry, but that’s wrong. Overpriced. Unclean and disappointing
