A good B&B should feel like a home from home, and that is precisely how I felt about the Victoria House in Northallerton. Situated on the beautiful South Parade, it is about 2 minutes walk from the railway station, and similarly close to the town centre - really in terms of location it couldn't be more convenient.
Each of the three rooms has a different theme, I stayed in the blue room and found it very comfortable indeed. Although my room was not en-suite, this did not cause any difficulties as I had a dedicated bathroom to myself just across the landing - this bathroom being very spacious and well appointed. The rooms were clean and tidy, clearly the ladies who run the Victoria House take a great deal of care over presentation, and the whole place had a lovely warm and cosy atmosphere.
All in all Teresa and Coleen looked after me superbly, I found the two ladies extremely approachable and professional, and I have no hesitation in saying that they looked after me wonderfully, and made me feel like a welcome guest in their house.

Warm and Welcoming

we had the gold room very nice. the breakfast was lovely nice lovely place very helpful. near the railway station. and very close to the shops betty tea rooms and lots of pubs. and the market     on sat and weds.

Not even 5 minutes walk from the station. My room was very comfortable and cosy. The welcome was lovely and breakfast was more than I could eat. Plenty of coffee, too - an enormous cafetiere just for me. Essential! There is plenty of hot water, wi fi and just about anything else you could want from a  B&B. I enjoyed a good night's sleep both nights - very quiet and I was not disturbed. The house was built in 1840 and has many of its original features, which is great to see.

Great location and so friendly

The room was clean and quiet and the bed was very comfortable.  Gaining access on the first afternoon was not easy; the bell did not seem to work (we later learned that it was awaiting a new battery) and we had to telephone from the front door.  We found that this door was, even when we had keys, temperamental - sometimes it didn't seem to work at all.  Breakfast on the first morning, ordered the night before, was just what we wanted.  I ordered something different for the second morning, but still got what I had ordered for the previous day; we were in a bit of a rush, so I just had it.  After it was served I was offered a choice of baked beans or tomatoes.  I asked for beans and got tomatoes.  The lights in the gold room would not be to everyone's taste, and the TV, mounted on a side wall, left us with stiff necks.  Our welcome was friendly and with more attention to detail we might recommend this.

Varied

I have stayed previously,and enjoyed a really nice stay.I never mentioned previously the circumstances leading up to actually getting booked in..because i just put things down to crossed wires,and apologies.and warm welcome made things ok.But,I never thought the same thing would happen again.The first time..we waited,clueless,and confused as to why there was a house empty,unattended,with no one about,even though we had paid for two nights..and were booked in for 3pm.We waited..as i wasnt going to give up on the money for starters!..Eventually,the owner arrived..(after nearly 3 hours)..we got told our booking was cancelled,and obviously it wasn't.We were apologised to sincerely,and were made welcome.We had such a wonderful stay..and hoped we would stay again one day.The opportunity arose,and we were booked in for 16th December..for two nights.We had communicated on the phone upon booking,and recalled our previous experience,jokingly,and were reassured that things were ok..and we could pay on arrival.I even phoned a week or so before to confirm things were ok..and it was repeated to me that the room was indeed booked.,and i said i would be there around 3om.I was,and my wife,looking forward to a couple of nights away..it may not mean much to some,but it meant alot to us.We were running late on the day..so i phoned to say we were running late,and would arrive after 4...to hear a confused sounding lady say that we had cancelled..I couldn't believe it..I was upset,we had quite alot hinged on the weekend,catching up with family,and abit of time with my wife with no home hassles..We were told there was nothing they could do..and said they had got us a room available at another B and B close-by.I think there is a moral to this story..dont assume you're booked in to Victoria House..you may be left in the cold.Such a shame.Nice place..just make sure you are in!
