I booked my ice cream van in for service so I decided to stay at the Midlands hotel in Mansfield for one night . On my way to the Midlands hotel there is only one road leading to the entrance an extremely steep hill barely wide enough for two cars . If you are a nervous driver you would certainly panic driving up this hill also going down . I'm quite confident driver but I was in my ice cream van it's an old transit with no turbo so I literally had to stay in first gear thrashing my van all the way up the hill would I was going to overheat my engine or roll backwards . I arrived quite late in the evening it was around 11 at night I paid around £60 + which doesn't include breakfast . Walking into the entrance it was very dark gloomy I knew this wasn't going to be a pleasant straight away . There was nobody at the reception the lady was actually in the bar talking to 2 workers from London that were staying there for a few days . After waiting ringing the bell for 15-minutes the lady finally came gave me my key . When I entered the room I actually thought they had given me the wrong room that this one was going to be renovated . The room was very small with a double bed with a tiny room attached which was the shower and toilet . The carpet must have been from the 1960s it was absolutely filthy very worn > the plug sockets was actually hanging from the wall > the tea coffee tray was empty just two cups the tiny kettle looked disgusting I wouldn't have used it anyway ( luckily I had some cold drinks in my ice cream van ) there was a dusty worn chair again probably from the 1960s in the corner > the bin in the corner still had rubbish in it from the previous guests > the walls were damp crumbling with mould the same in the bathroom > the sink was cracked with no hot water > the bathtub with a shower attached to the wall look absolutely disgusting like it hadn't been cleaned for a month . I Have nothing positive to say at all even the tiny 12 inch TV didn't work properly . I actually slept on top of the bed with my clothes still on as I was not taking the risk laying on those bed sheets that were covered in hairs . There were no toiletries whatsoever just two very old hard towels > I had to wear my fresh clothes only after having a cold wash because there wasn't any hot water . After a terrible few hours sleep because the music was playing in the bar until 2 in the morning heavy metal even though so the bar was empty I could hear the whole conversation downstairs between the reception lady talking to the two workers from London they all were very drunk very loud also having the room on the same side as the main Mansfield bus station didn't help with the buses coming going all the way through the night especially when the town buses started at 6 a.m. they were extremely noisy the windows didn't have double glazing they were the old wooden frame ( rotten ) single sheet pane of glass windows . I was only in Mansfield for one reason that was for my van to be serviced which was at 2 p.m. > I had to be out of the room at 11 am so I phone the reception lady asking if I could pay extra to stay a couple more hours because I had nothing to do until my van service > she said that was fine but I had to pay an extra £20 . When leaving Room 101 I went to pay the reception lady the £20 in cash also gave a £5 tip because that's the kind of person I am just to say I appreciated her giving me the extra time in the room . 5 months later which is now 21st of December I have just received a letter from Gladstone solicitors saying that I owe £275 for a parking fine£160 for the parking fine £35 for a court fee and £80 for the solicitors costs >that was for the extra 2 hours I stayed even though I phoned the lady paying the £20 extra also giving the £5 tip

This has got to be the worst hotel (if you can call it that) that I have stayed in. The walls were littered with water marks and essentially crumbling down. Each window had peeling paper and gaping holes. I didn't dare use the shower as the bath was littered with grime- pretty sure not even cockroaches would survive here. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid!

Avoid this health hazard of a 'hotel'

we went as a family with 3 young children and book 2 rooms , we wasnt expecting luxury but what we got was dreadful the place should be shut down it was falling to bits . the corridors were dreary and water damage everywhere buckets left in corridor as tripping hazards for kids as ceiling leaking , windows were unsealed gapping holes all around .  then into rooms plug sockets hanging off the wall with young children ! stain on bedsheet , window cracked , window sill peeling , bulbs missing , untiled bathroom .. worse place ive ever stayed

AVOID !!

The bed was comfy and the toilet was clean, sadly everything else was disgusting and filthy. Dirtiest carpet I've seen still in a building. The beds were unmade and the bed linen had not bee changed. The bin was full of rubbish and the previous occupants sandwich was still in the fridge, dirty tissues on the tv unit. There were no toiletries in the bathroom and no tea or coffee as advertised. Dirty cups and scuffs and marks on the walls. 
Even if this is the last room in town, sleep rough.

Vile.

I stayed here with my brother for one night. To be fair to the staff, they were friendly and made us feel welcome. The hotel itself is very lacking though both in facilities and decor. Our room had use of a bathroom which was not internal i.e. it was accessible for other guests- just a weird setup. The room itself was literally 2 beds. No wardrobe, no mirror, tv did not work, no tea/coffee making facilities. There was mould on the windows. The thing though is that the hotel is within spitting distance of the bus station and you could hear buses coming/going until about 11pm and starting up again at 6am. Not a very comfortable stay. We paid £58 for the night. Best to spend an exrea £15 and book the travelodge in town.

Avoid!

The place is a complete disaster and reminds me of a horror film.  PLEASE DO NOT BOOK ACCOMMODATION HERE.  The review from Natalie Harvey is spot on.
No hot water in the morning and I complained to the Manager who just thought it was funny and got me a kettle of water!!  What I would call NUTS: Not Up To Standard.
The only pillow had been turned over to disguise ablood stains.  I then pulled back the sheets which revealed more Human stains.  I am sure the bed linen had not been washed.
To top it all, the kitchen must have been out of order and they were cooking from a vehicle outside.  
I arrived late in the evening and didn't notice the broken windows but did notice teenagers outside smoking dope.  Which was a bit unnerving.  
Interesting someone called Debbie F giving it a great review.  They must be the owners or a member of staff.
When leaving I noticed a couple of rats; one in the corridor and one outside.

This place makes Fawlty Towers look like the Ritz.
No hot wster.
Dirty bed linen.
Rats in car park.
Buckets on stairs catching rain from leaky roof.
Noise from partying homeless in derelict rooms.
Noise from bus station next door.
Bar is occupied by teenage louts sittimg on tables.
Stronģ smell of Cannabis.
Restaurant and kitchen smashed to pieces - food cooked in van outside.
Smashed windows.
Faulty electrics.
Manager just rolled his eyes and said ' Well love what do you want for £35'.
DO.NOT BOOK THIS IS A SCANDAL.

Very disappointing experience, we requested a microwave and fridge , no rooms with the equipment. as apparently still renovating. Upon arrival we waited over ten mins to get served. Exscessive about of cleaning chemicals , used to clean room , and the se pics show overpriced accommodation.Builders on site , but the hotel can’t be bothered to fix the no toilet roll holes issue.  

I would only stay if no where else available in area.

Weekend stay

Staff are amazing here cannot do enough for you.  The building is dated but it is a listed building.  the cleanliness is fabulous.  The bar attached is fun and again staff brilliant.  The rooms have a bath in bathroom always a bonus for me.  As someone who lives a few miles away points to improve would be...let us book direct and give us a brekkie.  Again I feel we must say how amazing the staff here are...good job guys hope to stay again soon.

Great place

Excellent staff service, very helpful and polite, hotel is being renovated some rooms do need improving but they are very big and spacious. Very enjoyable stay. Close to town centre. Even has a really lovely bar. Definitely will stay again.
