Lovely hotel in a delightful building with large patio garden at front of it. Clean and spacious rooms.  Good evening meal at reasonable price.  The only downside was the offering at breakfast.  Only two offerings of porridge were available and that was at about 8.15 am, disappointing especially as we were in Scotland.  Also little choice in other cereals and no natural yogurt  which to me is an indication of a good choice of breakfast menu.  

Other than that would recommend for a short stay.



Good hotel in a convenient and pleasant setting.  Nice patio garden and bar area.  

Another lovely overnight stay - room modern and very clean and very comfortable, food in restaurant of a very high standard and staff excellent and friendly.
Highly recommended and will certainly be returning.

Great Hotel for Overnight Stay

I'm in two minds about writing this review as Cressfield seems to fall into the 'hidden gems' category!!!
I have stayed here previously with my husband when travelling too and from the Highlands to visit family in England but this was the first time I'd stayed there alone. The warm, friendly staff put me at ease immediately, even offering to take my luggage to my room. Despite the dining room being super busy they fitted me in for a delicious evening meal without losing the smile on their face.
The single room was exceptionally good value for money and, as ever,  spotlessly clean, well maintained and contained everything needed for a comfortable night's stay. Breakfast was of the same high standard as the evening meal and I, reluctantly, left ready to continue my journey. I'll be back!!!

Hidden gem just off the motorway 

Excellent overnight trip,rooms very large,modern and well appointed with a modern bathroom which was also spotless,all the staff very friendly and welcoming,meal at night was excellent with a good menu choice,full Scottish breakfast was also excellent,well worth a visit.

A-MAZE-ING!!! Great stop over heading north. Really good value. Clean comfortable room. Staff very pleasant and efficient.
Best of all....evening meal. Top quality, beautifully presented and very tasty food.

You really should stop here!

Very comfortable rooms with tea/ coffee and hot chocolate, rooms are serviced every day. There is a nice bar area with very welcoming staff and friendly locals. The food is delicious. This hotel is a  great stop over hotel while on your way to, or travel back from the highlands.

Nice place

This hotel proved to be perfect for our 2 night stay when attending a wedding in a nearby venue. So easy to find from the motorway, lovely county walks on the doorstep, pleasant, comfortable room, more than adequate breakfast, lovely friendly staff and great value for money. A good find.

Great pit stop

It fulfilled all our expectations, run by friendly people, quite a traditional and comfortable hotel with all the usual facilities.  The en suite shower room was a tad cramped but completely adequate. 
The dinner menu was good as was the quality / presentation of food. 
One thing they happened to mention themselves, though not an issue for us may be useful for readers of the review, was that due to the listing of the building they are not allowed to make changes to the exterior to provide disabled access.  Nevertheless, for functions they do have a covered marquee-type area adjacent to the side of the building that those with mobility issues may access.
The location, on the edge of Ecclefechan, was handy for the motorway ie a good overnight stop for those, like us travelling back from Northern Scotland to England.
It seemed very good value, similar price to a private B&B, but I suspect we may have got a special price when we booked through a booking website.

Good place to stay

There 17 of us in total - they staff could not have been more helpful in making our stay as perfect as possible. The rooms are beautifully appointed, my double bed must have been 6ft wide!
The breakfast was very tasty, and loads of it. The rib of beef for dinner was divine!

Great country house hotel

The hotel was well placed close to the main route into Scotland on the west. The welcome from the staff was excellent, we felt looked after and had a good stay and good food. The hotel was clean and well looked after. I would recommend it to others.
