We chose this Pub to stay and dine at after reading such good reviews. My husband was working the whole weekend at nearby Melksham and thought I would join him so he didn't have to drive all the way home. The pub is lovely, traditional, staff (young lads) were really friendly, attentive and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The room was huge, very comfortable, great bathroom and shower. We ate in the Pub, food was fantastic and we complemented the Chef at Breakfast the next morning. There was flexibility in what you wanted for cooked breakfast, I honestly can say everything was spot on. Hoping we will have the opportunity to come back soon.

Great one night stay and meal at The Neeld

Went to the pub for a Sunday lunch, on arrival 3 young members of (staff) dressed in very scruffy casual clothes behind the bar. After breaking there conversation up to ask for a drink after several minutes stood at the bar, I asked for a table for two but was told there was no tables, a little strange when the pub was half empty, none the less we where told we could sit outside, bring a little cold out we waited at the bar till the food was ready,  asking the waitress where are food had got to I was told it’s outside waiting for us, the food was half cold and had no cutlery. Such a shame a once an amazing pub now is being run into the ground.

Sunday lunch

Following a family funeral at St Mary's Church we arranged a reception here.  The Neeld Arms laid on a magnificent spread for 90 people – beautifully done.  

During the planning process Richard the manager, and chef Liam could not have been more welcoming, thoughtful and efficient. 

While there to meet Richard during the planning stage we had a lovely lunch: vegan burger for my wife, mushroom wellington for me.  Both delicious. 

Grittleton's a lovely quiet village and the Neeld Arms has a wonderful atmosphere. A terrific destination.

Good food and a wonderful atmosphere

What a sad state of affairs.  This once thriving pub is now on its knees.  The new 'management' are absent and have left the premises in the charge of a motely crew who are largely incapable and don't care.  The chef sits at the bar all night drinking bottles of spirits (on the house?).  The food trade is non existent.  The rooms are half refurbished and mainly empty. The bar is empty.  It is only a matter of time before this once great pub closes for good along with many other local boozers.  What a shame.

How long can it go on?

We had another lovely sunday dinner here, the food was spot on, the two young  waiters were very nice, our table was in the extension which is lovely and  decorated in keeping with the pub. The Tea was also very nice,  all in all a  very lunch in a lovely pub
 We will book again.

Lovely Sunday Lunch.

This was a nice find, taking into account all their competitors were closed. The food was great and the service. Although I could not help noticing their were quite a few nouveaux riche patrons drinking in there. You know the type, old gits in open top Porsches!

Great service

We stayed here after attending a wedding. We enjoyed our stay, we had everything we needed and room was clean and tidy. We also had dinner and breakfast here and food was very nice. Friendly and helpful service and a great atmosphere. Easy to park. Would recommend

Good value and comfortable rooms

We stayed here for a wedding last weekend, upon arrival the guy who checked us in was really friendly and let us check in early which was great, i did call prior for this!
We had a large spacious twin room, the beds were very comfortable with nice bed linen.
The room itself could do with a bit of a spruce, new bed linen and some better towels and one major major thing NEW CURTAINS, these curtains let every single bit of light in, its almost not worth having them up as it woke me at 5am.
Check out smooth, friendly chefs and good brekkie, the 3 star is mainly because of my lack of sleep.
Would return if curtains were changed.

Needs updating

Another successful visit for Sunday lunch.
Usual friendly staff and exceptional pate starter.Both had roast beef which nicely thin cut and great roast potatoes and cabbage/leaks.
Sticking toffee pudding always good.
Reasonable prices.

Sunday lunch treat

We've been going to the Neeld arms after a local music festival (WOMAD) for over a decade and liked its quirky-ness and laisez-fair attitude. the food was great, the water hot and the beer good, perfect for post festival recovery. Last year it had changed hands but still met most of our needs and we rebooked in January and got confirmation. When we arrived on the Monday after the festival at about 11.30am, the side door was open but no one about (this actually was not unusual) , so we waited in the bar. At 12noon a rather scruffy young man turned up, expressed surprise at us being there and went to the loo.
On his return I told him we had a booking but initially he was a bit confused as to what room we were in and rang the landlord. I asked him to book us a table for food that evening and he said the Neeld Arms no longer did food on a Monday because "...the chef needs a day off." I told him this was very inconvenient and he told me I could Google other places locally to find food that evening.
After a discussion  with the landlord by phone he said we could have room 1  but we couldn't occupy it until 5pm as this was the new "company policy". It was then 12.20pm.
I told him this was very inconvenient and I was very unhappy, he restated it was 'company policy' , that there was nothing he could do about it  and he wandered away mumbling.
The whole point of our booking was to have a relaxing was to have a relaxing day before travelling back up north and this need had been met by the Neeld Arms since 2008.
I understand owners can run businesses as they please but this change had come without notice and was appallingly dealt with by the staff at the time. We went elsewhere and will not be booking again.
