Ok, so it was cash only and it was £150 per night. It was originally booked through booking.com then cancelled via the owner so she doesn't incur booking.com fees (or reviews one wonders) Having been texted to find out our arrival time (3pm), we arrived to be shown in by a surly teenage son. Nothing was explained to us. The room is stunning and the bathroom jaw-dropping BUT freezing cold... so cold that the tape around the bathroom window was vibrating in the wind. We asked for the heating to be left on, in a chance to use the bath but the bathroom just didn't get warm enough. The breakfast we got left out for us included a couple of dry croissants (morning 2) and a chocolate chip brioche each. There were strawberries, actimel, cereals, yogurts, individual cheeses and fresh milk in a little fridge on the landing. It felt very odd having to creep out and grab stuff in your jamas (not really a £150 p night experience). After night 1 of 3, we asked for meats like in the pictures, and some bread. Morning two came and no bread. "Because it was New Years Eve"... if only I'd known, I could have picked some up whilst I was in Sainsbury's earlier that afternoon..... morning 3 came and still no bread.... really??
It's got a very odd feel; no signage, no warmth, like you're staying in an Airbnb really- (which I host, so know what that feels like- except I charge £25 a night). So overall a real disappointment. We'd have far rather been staying in a chain hotel in town where you get what you pay for...

Decidedly odd....

Loved this house and bathroom. Quite liked the diy breakfast and complimentary wine was a nice touch. Very clean and spacious.  The hosts collected our bags for us from the car and we were very comfortable.

Beautiful large victorian house.

Joyce gave us a warm welcome and the house is stunning.  Wonderful huge rooms, divine bathrooms, mine had Liz Earle face wash and Moulton Brown body lotion, heaven.  My friends room was the best one, vast bed, bath in the middle of an enormous room, beautifully decorated. Breakfast was a lovely mixture of cereals loads of fresh fruit and lashings of tea and coffee.  A short walk into the centre of Edinburgh or a quick bus ride.  A really nice place to stay.

Beautiful B&B in great location

We had the deluxe king room which was luxurious. Very comfortable bed and excellent huge bathroom. Great to have breakfast in the room which consisted of coffee, juice, fruit, yogurt, toast, croissants, bagels, smoked salmon, cheese etc. Joyce was very welcoming and helpful. Enjoyed the surprise bottle of prosecco which she brought to our room for my wife's birthday! Great location, buses to city at the end of the road. Wifi works well, large TV with Virgin media box. Thanks for a pleasant stay

Loved it!

The deal was '£150 cash-only' for a cold buffet  breakfast with teaspoons neither on the left-out spread nor on the (huge) room tea tray - upon which the ground coffee with caffetiere was dried out in a sugar bowl.  Also, how come only 1 pack of 2 biscuits for a double room?
The whisky in the decanter was lovely - but there was (romantically?) only 1 whisky glass whilst the candles and tea-lights were (unromantically) all pre-burned down to burnt stumps of nothing.  
Never mind, lets enjoy the  lovely looking garland of battery-powered fairy lights on the mantelpiece, but hang-on - the batteries are completely flat.
Breakfast: Coffee only, which saved us the tea OR coffee pantomime whilst consistency was maintained by there, again, being no teaspoons provided on top of there being no sugar provision for cereals/drinks.
A 'human-touch' was a head (?) hair (we assumed), adorning an un-cored apple segment adjacent to the un-hulled fresh strawberries and blueberries with stalks on: We hoped they'd been cleaned.
One unmarked conserve jar of 'yellow' revealed itself previously opened with furry mould in it.
All slightly suspicious as to why others rave about this place - were they 'cash only' too?
