This is a hotel pushing to improve but not claiming to be something they are not. 
The owners have done a great job with the refurbishment. They have worked with what was there previously and enhanced and updated it. Great location for anyone wanting to take in the north coast without the ‘noise’ of the ports. 
We were given a family room which slept 5 in total over two rooms, even though there was only the two of us.  It was spacious and appointed with everything you need and it was clean very clean. All the staff were friendly, especially the young man behind the bar (sorry I didn’t get his name). He was busy cleaning out his fridges when not serving and taking a pride in his place of work. 
Food was good, well cooked and there is something for everyone on the menu. 
We had no preconceived ideas about this hotel and were not disappointed with our stay in any way. 
This hotel would make a great venue for a smaller wedding - good food, great staff and stunning picture opportunities on the doorstep.

Welcome Escape

Recommended by our B & B host.  We enjoyed the food.  My partner raved about the seafood chowder.  Our server was lovely.  Attractive, clean decor.  We had an amazing sunset view through the window while we ate.  I would definitely return if in the area.

Sunset View!

Arrived here for the first time with a bus load of friends (60+) for a pre booked lunchtime meal. We were all very well looked after but I must mention two young lads, James and Stuart, who attended us within our area of the dining room. A big thank you for all your help and attention throughout our stay in the dining room. You were both very well mannered and attentive during our meal time. Some will say that should be the norm,but I find, that is not always the case at some premises.

Another first visit.

We went for dinner for my wife’s birthday and it was superb, the decor was beautiful the food first class and the service was too, the braised beef was succulent served with creamy mash and cabbage in a Guinness gravy  my wife’s steak was excellent. The sticky toffee pudding was wonderful and so was my wife’s chocolate fondant

We dined at Gray’s for the first time on Sunday 14th April 2024 and we were certainly not disappointed.

Having heard so much about the Sunday Lunch offerings we knew we had to try it for ourselves and it was beyond reproach.

We had booked ahead and only had a very short time to wait until we were shown to our table in their very bright and roomy dining room with views over the countryside towards the coastline - even on a very rainy day it was a stunning location.

The tables were well spaced out unlike some other restaurants who place diners very close together to get as many covers as possible - not the case in Gray’s.

The ambience was quiet and peaceful leading to a very relaxed dining experience.

We both opted for main courses only having seen other diners receiving their food and that was definitely the right option,

Portion sizes were huge and we certainly would never have been able to have starters or desserts.

Quality of food was exemplary - I had roast beef and my partner had turkey and ham. Both plates piled high and both meals were fabulous.

Whilst slightly on the expensive side we certainly had no complaints and would recommend Gray’s as a treat to anyone visiting the area.

I took the liberty of checking out their lunch and evening menu and both were fabulous and we will definitely be back to try those in the near future.

An added bonus to Gray’s is the fact it also has 17 bedrooms which would make for a lovely break away in an area of outstanding natural beauty,

Fabulous Gem on the North Coast

We walked into the Grays and enjoyed there, it is a perfect Irish setting with some great food and coffee. 
The beauty of this place is with the staff both Peadar n Yvonne were hospitable and welcoming
Certainly worth a stop while driving through the coast

Drive through the northern coast

Wonderful stay under the new team!.  Excellent refurbishment...wonderful colour schemes throughout.  After many years staying at the Smugglers was anxious about change but neednt have worried!  Really friendly staff...Emma on reception and Alan were excellent as were the waiting staff.  A great team on duty this weekend!  Our 2 granddaughters loved their stay, as always!  Food excellent on Saturday evening and good entertainment in the bar afterwards.  Really lovely breakfast this morning!  So pleased to see the place retain its friendly and inviting atmosphere!  Cant wait for next visit!

Birthday treat weekend

Lovely Hotel with hard working, friendly staff.
Breakfast and Dinner were very nice.
The only issue we had was our dormer room was tight for head space when getting in and out of the bed. Velux windows had blinds but light came through either side of the blinds.

One night stay

(Now Grey’s) Location  is amazing with easy access to see all that  the coast has to offer. Service was top notch -we were treated like gold and appreciated Adam’s personal touches. 
The room was large with a wonderful view. Bathroom was very modern and spotless. Bed was very comfortable. Stunning sunrise and sunset 
Breakfast was excellent with a great variety to choose from as well as a la carte. The lady in charge was very knowledgeable and helpful. 
The bar in the evening was a perfect end to the day. Super friendly bar tender who made us laugh. 
The hotel is in transition with new ownership -extensive renovations have been done on the main floor with more to come. 
Obviously in very good hands.

Excellent choice

We ate dinner here following a recommendation from our B&B. Food was really good and fir the standard good value. Couple of hitches with service - took an order for wine with our meal and then forgot it, cleared one persons plate while the other was still eating. But otherwise good. Great sunset vantage point, though once the sun went down the spot lights outside were turned on blinding those still inside.
