We arrived at 2pm, walked in the hotel entrance past 2 ladies smoking in the door, stepped over orange cables and a pipe without any tape in place or hazard warnings. I walked to reception and no one was there. A woman screetched that she'd be with us once she'd finished her fag. She was one of the women smoking in the door. A larger woman with bleached hair.
Why have a cigarette break at check-in time? 

Eventually she checked us in. Told us the room number and we went upstairs. Just outside the lift, the orange cables and pipe extended past the entrance of the lift without health and safety being managed. I couldn't have exited in my wheelchair. The smell of damp was awful. We thought you'd had a bad leak. We went to our deluxe room, were impressed, left our luggage, set up my cpap machine for bedtime and went out on the town. Not returning until midnight.

On arrival in our room the room now stank of damp, the carpet was now wet (I hadn't taken my shoes off earlier) and thought oh well, it'll be OK. It wasn't OK, the smell was overwhelmingly bad, especially through a cpap mask and I didn't get to sleep til 4am.

I told reception who said they'd know about the smell and I should have popped down and they'd have moved room at 3am? 2am? I'd have had to have packed up my wheelchair and cpap equipment, disturbed my husband who has no sense of smell and moved to another room. When all rooms had had the same treatment?

Up until then I was so impressed with the room and facilities. But a) when workers are using cables and equipment every effort should be made to look after the safety of your guests b) staff shouldn't smoke in doorways and prioritise their nicotine fixes over guests and c) if you are ever having carpets cleaned, leave them a day prior to putting people in them. The smell was awful and gave me an asthma attack in the night. All that damp.

The morning receptionist, older woman, wasn't helpful either, so a complaint was written.

Other than that, the deluxe room was lovely, great shower and towels, hot water, coffee cups that could be used downstairs, even biscuits. No problem with noise. It would have been a 5 from me were it not for the damp.

Liked room,although windows were huge and not soundproof, the noise from outside was so loud we couldn't sleep at all. Hot water was not very hot when using the shower, disliked this a lot. Wify connection was not stable.
Was very disappointed on the staff of the hotel, was like the hotel was handeled over to unexperienced kids. Before my arrival I had asked to bokk a taxi, was told a note was left for the staff but to let them know about it on the arrival, we did, then later on we asked if this was book and they told me no but they were going to do it, we needed the taxi for 6 am, when we were up in the morning we went downstairs before 6 am and the person on the reception said the taxi would arrive soon, we went outside, and she left after us took her taxi and our taxi never arrived, reception was left without someone to help, we were locked out tried contacting taxis everything was booked, had to run to another hotel to ask for help and waited another half an hour on a taxi to arrive, we arrived really late had to rush all way through the airport and with huge waiting lines, very unprofessional staff, super disappointed and will never book again, told friends that are going to Birmingham to avoid this hotel, we waited a lot of money with this joke.

Please train your staff well, for those two days the arrival and morning we left there was different staff and they didn't show professionalism.

If I could be refunded for this really bad experience would appreciate it

Worst experience

There is always a lively and friendly atmosphere at this Wetherspoons; it’s a great place for pre-drinks before a night out. Although it gets really busy and it can be difficult to find a seat/table there are usually little ledges available around the pub to put your drink on and stand next to.

Great atmosphere

Stay for two nights,It is right in the heart of Birmingham and easy for everything. Room was great, comfortable bed, a nice bathroom with a Bath. The staff are GREAT !!!
Wetherspoons do everything right, eat and drink downstairs at great prices. I will now look for other Wetherspoons that offer accommodation for our next trip.

Had a great time with speedy service in here for a birthday night out. Marcel was friendly and very approachable. He made our night out, what a gent. A real asset to the team! He looks a damn site older than 18 though. A true knight in shining armour - give that man a raise!

I really don’t know why I am bothering to submit this review as Wetherspoons never seem to read them or comment. They certainly don’t take any notice of them as their customer service level continues to decline. This was no exception.
We popped in for lunch to find the place busy but certainly not full. This is a city centre pub and usually rammed to the doors - it wasn’t, far from it. I went to the bar and waited behind a lady just being served. When she finished, the lady moved aside, I moved forward and the barmaid just walked off !. By this time there was another customer behind me. We waited and eventually  a guy came to the till in the middle of serving someone else. He finished, the customer left as did the barman !. He moved less than 5m up the bar to serve someone else. He then proceeded to serve another customer who had just arrived. By this time we had waited 5-10 minutes. A Lady looking more senior than came to the till with a chef and began pushing buttons. I asked how we could get served as two staff had already walked away. “Well - we are busy” was the reply !. I pointed out that they weren’t, and that we had waited quite some time and the guy continued to serve new customers. She said again “we are busy” but then promised to serve us next.
Our food came quickly but I’m mystified how freshly fried runny eggs can be served STONE cold, not luke warm, COLD. That’s a new one on me, I bet even Gordon Ramsey would have trouble with that one.

In summary; awful customer service, poorly prepared food and rising prices. Pretty much sums up most of our recent experiences of Wetherspoons. Where will it all end ?. Tim is clearly not bothered.

Poor customer service…..again !

I arrived mid-afternoon. tried the door then realised you had to push the button to get in. The response was almost like it dont be so silly it is already open. "Pull the door" Got up to the reception no afternoon. can i get your name for check-in no did you have a pleasant journey? Then seemed like she couldn't find my name. Instead of just keeping on looking and dealing with it she looks up to her side when one of her colleagues comes though "You going to laminate that" Then turns around and gets the laminator Do you know how to work it. Then says my surname and goes is that your surname or first name. (should have been obvious) Oh, here it is. Sign here as you're agreeing to nonsmoking in the room which is fine quiet normal and say that breakfast wasn't included which was fine. Got to my room on the second floor. the first thing that hits you is the size of the room this was just the standard room. The room faced the street. two sets of windows the outer ones only opened slightly and the inner ones slid so could get plenty of fresh air. The carpet seemed brand new. The bed settee could do with replacement. tv could have been bigger as the screen itself was on the small side compared to the actual TV itself. The bathroom had soap for the sink but nothing for the shower, There was a shelf for your own items but that was on the opposite side from the rain-style showerhead. sleep rating was ok but on the first night got woken up by the barles being delivered. On checkout there was a few members of staff at the reception area said im checking out for 210 (prefer to hand it over then putting it in the box) One member of staff said oh ok thats 210 left. No thank you no have a plesent jounery home.

Don’t let outside put you off. Reception as you go in and had to take lift to floor. Rooms big and everything you need there. Clean and well kept. Little old inside but nothing major. No noise.  Ate in pub downstairs for breakfast

Great place to stay

We requested a quiet room and we were at the back of the building, in room 206. No traffic noise, but a background hum from some sort of extractor, possibly. 
Spacious room and bathroom. Shower was good. Room had good lighting.
Decor a bit dark and plain.  Good blackout linings on the curtains.
Slight criticism that mattress wasn't the most comfortable, although pillows and bed linen were good quality.
Room and hotel environment was very clean.
On checking out we reported that the handle on the outside of the bathroom door needed attention, as it was nearly hanging off.
Good selection of complimentary tea and coffee,   plus biscuits and bottled water.
Room only, but a great breakfast at the Wetherspoons pub downstairs. Good value for money. 

A night's stay after the theatre.

From start to finish a welcoming atmosphere. This is the first Wetherspoons I been too ( and been to a few lol) that I was truly taken away with the service and hospitality. I was asked if my food was ok and took my plate away promptly. Only here for the day and certainly will return back .
