Hostel Kyiv

Initially, I found this hostel very hard to find - I enlisted the help of the pharmacist, a shop keeper, and eventually another hostel customer. The door is marked with the number, but it is not clear which bell to press for the hostel. I was greated with a very warm welcome by the hosts, who made me tea and offered me some snacks. The host did not speak English, but this wasn't a problem. The hostel was overcrowded, due to it being the Champions League final night, but the next night, normal business was resumed. As far as I could tell, there was one shower and two toilets for the whole hostel, but there may have been more through the male dorm room that I didn't see. The bathroom was basic, with not a lot of space to take lots of clothes or products in with you, but this did mean that it wasn't cluttered with other residents things. The kitchen was also small, but there was a table and room to sit and eat or drink tea and try to communicate with the other using smiles, nods and google translate. This really is a budget hostel, but the security here felt safe - the door to the building is locked and the hostel is not on the ground floor. I was given clean sheets and towel when I arrived, and was made to feel welcome. They even let me leave my bags there after I checked out. The location is central Kyiv, right on the tram line, and about 10 minutes away from the main train station or the metro stops. It's a little walk to the main centre and sights, which aren't on the door step but well within easy walking distance. I would stay there again, but as a Ukrainian budget hostel, some may find it too basic.
