We booked two nights on this little guest house that has a Bistro right on top. Nope, its not noisy. Anyway if you do know where you are heading , which is Jiu Fen, you would have noted that its a place with houses on slopes and steep steps. So this little guest house spans 3 levels. The street level ( 3rd level) is where the Bistro bar is where you get snacks and dinner at night.  and so level 2 and 1 would be the rooms. The best or largest rooms are on level 1 but does have a slight blocked view issue. The room is put together with a modern rustic feel to it, yet bringing the local 1960s feel into the place. Sheets are clean, bed comfortable and whatever you need is right there. Again JiuFen can get super crowded and we were one of the rare tourists who actually drove up. We got lost and the host was very kind to take her scooter down and guide us up with umbrellas. She also kindly told her where to snitch some free parking lots which was absolutely useful on a super crowded hill! Her two nights stay came with dinners but we didnt make it back in time, so she dropped us two bottles of cold beer in our room and that was absolutely sweet. The location of this guest house is awesome, it sits right on the street to the legendary Jiufen Lao Jie ( Old Street) and its super convenient. I am so glad we did this guesthouse becuase I couldnt really do those old guesthouse with floral sheets and flat, sunken beds at cheap prices. This is a good , clean and new guest house. I highly recommend it!

Fantastic Location, Great Host

Regret but 4 stars? Read on. 

Came Jiufen as a passerby almost 10 years ago and instantly fell in love with it. Told myself to have a place to stay the next time I come. Which we did.

We checked in at night to a scenic view of a hilly road. Should have rented our own car for a drive. Woke up to a not-so-direct sea view in the morning. But we are happy with it.

Like many said, the toilet is rather smelly. Assuming it's the improper planning of drainage/sewerage nearby. But upon telling the owner, they brought an extra air purifier and fix it in the toilet. It really helps. All you need to do is ask. Not complain.

The owner and assuming the husband, is very friendly and warm. So is the staff of the bar they owned. Give us discounted deal for some grilled food the night before we checked out.

What's our regret? We should have stayed a day or two more.

Great Regret

This clean, comfortable guest house is located smack in the heart of the Jiufen's Old Town. We rented a quadruple (two queen beds) with an ocean view. Included dinner or a breakfast (our choice). Please note that Qingbian Road does not have car access, so some walking is required from bus stop or taxi stand. Also, some steep stairs to access rooms. But this is a good choice if you want to be right in the heart of Old Town Jiufen.

Lovely guest house in the heart of old town Jiufen

Jiufen is a must visit place whilst visiting Taiwan so we decided to spend three nights here, exploring the town plus some other nearby sites of interest. 
Accommodation choices are quite limited as Jiufen is very small, and we also stayed during Chinese New Year.

Jiufen280 Bistro House is perfect for a one night stay and the owners are warm and welcoming - the views from our ocean facing room were amazing and the room is functional with all you need. The wifi speed was also good and we had no issues with the drains like other reviewers.

 Alas, we stayed during a rainy time so our room become very damp, with moisture dripping down the exterior wall. The room is also quite compact with very little room for your bags. I'd recommend this for a one or two night stay when it is warm, but not during the colder seasons.

Ok for a one night stay / lovely owners, amazing view but damp room

There are many stinky drains in jiufen ... Unfortunately one was in our room.  The smell seemed to grow every time a bathroom tap was used and made us feel sick. With no door on the bathroom (just a curtain) there was also no way of keeping the stench out of the rest of the room. We were shown the other room next door but it also had a bad odour once anything in the bathroom was used.

The owner offered to assist finding a room nearby or help us get a refund if we wanted to moved to another inn. Unfortunately it was late we couldn't find something suitable quickly. They also gave us a free drink for the problems. Hopefully they can fix the drains properly because the smell ruined our stay.

Other big problem was no internet the whole time we were there. Owner told me it was issue affecting internet for the whole country,,, but the connections were fine at the nearby cafes.

Staff on site could not speak english at all so conversations had to be via text with owner.

Message was handed to us when we arrived saying that no toiletries are provided for the reason of protecting the environment .... And so there was not even any soap in the room!

Room size was ok but nowhere near the 33sqm listed on our booking site.

View not great from the room which was on lowest level.

I would suggest staying elsewhere.
