The premises was located in Minxiong, around 30 minutes' drive from Chiayi Railway Station.  The taxi ride was NT500.  We were attracted by the campervan accommodation and the wide range of DIY activities as specified in the website and decided to give a try for one night.

The stay took us by surprise in the following ways:

Accommodation -  A big piece of sticker with bodies of dead insects (mostly flies) was hung inside the campervan. The kids were scared and refused to move in.  We finally decided to upgrade to the Margarita Villa at almost double the price.  Gimmicks such as campervans and tree houses were not well-maintained.  We found spider web outside the tree house and also the Margarita Villa. 

Reception - the reception was actually the car parking lot booth at the entrance.  Payment and enquiry were all done there.  The receptionist also served the function of the concierge.  

Customer service - e-mails sent to Sontenkan were unattended for a few days and not too responsive.  After our arrival we believe that there was a serious shortage of staff.  During daytime one lady has to teach DIY activities in addition to gardening and cleansing of the premises, hence the kids could not perform DIY at anytime they like.  The greatest astonishment was the lack of any customer service after 21.00hrs, and all problems had to be reported to the security guards for further arrangement.  Our TV was out of order and too bad we discovered this only after 21.00hrs.  At night time it was rather windy and cold and a walk within the premises was not preferable.  In fact there were few tourists during weekdays.  In addition, Sontenkan was quite far from the downtown of Chiayi and there was nothing special in the vincinity, hence the whole night a family of four sitting on the bed doing nothing.   

Facilities - They had a lot of gimmicks such as bali feel decoration and variety shows performed by acrobats and Thai performers etc in the morning and afternoon. However, the facilities were not well-maintained and some were quite shabby.  DIY activities included soap-making, painting of small objects etc. but the workshop would only operate upon request and walk-in would not be feasible.  No entertainment or customer service after 21.00 hrs.

We had little feeling of farm stay compared to other farms we've been in Taiwan, Australia or New Zealand.  No sight of animals or relevant farm activities.  We understand that the farm was under the management of Janfusan Group and just wondered why there was such a big difference between Sontenkan and other Jafunsan brand hotels we've stayed before.  Not recommended.
