A friend and I stopped here for 3 nights, merely as a place to sleep that is located conveniently close to the Basel Indoors Tennis centre (one of the reasons for our trip) and we didn't really expect too much. When we arrived late at night on the Monday, we were greeted by one of the kitchen staff to begin with. Then a nice chap (probably the owner) checked us in and we were shown to our room. The room seemed cosy enough but we did notice a few things that were amiss. Firstly, the shower/toilet was incredibly small. Not ideal really. The layout of some of the electrical equipment left a lot to be desired also, but these are minor issues. The main problem for myself especially was when I tried to get the old loaf (of bread-head) down for a kip after a long day travelling about. The duvet was terrible and the pillows were way too big. My night's sleeps got marginally better each time but the last night was still hugely frustrating, with me getting 5 hours maximum. Another 3 weeks staying there and I would've finally got a decent night's sleep! Despite these things, what I must say, most importantly, is that the people in this hotel were all very nice indeed. Very polite and where there was a language barrier, their English was much better than our German/Swiss German so we got by just fine. Whenever we needed assistance regarding travel routes/methods or directions, or indeed anything, they were always willing to help and very friendly with it. They also provided us with free travel passes which covered us for all the modes of transport we needed during our stay. We sampled the breakfasts a couple of times also and no complaints there. Plenty of choice and coffee was served for us. All in all this is a good hotel, situated in a lovely area of Basel, close enough to the city centre and with the River Rhine just a stone's throw away. Some minor issues with the bedroom but the people and the friendly atmosphere make this a very welcoming place.
