Sareth my charming and very professional driver from www.srilankantourguide.com who drove me all over the island has made his own lovely home available as a homestay. Set just beyond the gracious University complex  and mercifully away from the mad traffic of downtown Kandy this impressive free standing private house has wrap around balconies with amazing 180 degree views over the surrounding mountains from every room. As a guest you are given the whole top floor with a wrap around balcony, a spacious room with private bathroom adjacent to a large living area, total privacy  The superb home cooked dinner and breakfast is served downstairs in the family home by Sareth's delightful wife. This was the best homestay I found in my Sri Lankan trip  and it was a privilege to be able to share it and their company for a few days. Excellent Wi Fi and wonderful value  too.

A beautiful home with amazing 180 degree mountain views

The location was excellent and very near Kandy. The accommodation was superb with all amenities and immaculate. The bedroom was large and had fantastic views. Our hosts made us feel more than welcome and met all our needs well. The breakfast was an assortment of fresh local fruits, fresh juices, water and hot beverages, including eggs and pancakes. By request we had a home cooked evening meal, which consisted of local produce, which was fresh and very tasty at a reasonable cost. We could not fault the homestay in any way and we will definitely return.

Stunning Location!

In January during a splendid trip he is stopped in the house of our driver. Every perfect thing. The gentleness, the food and the cleaning.

My wife and I have visited Sri Lanka for our holidays in 2014. We made use of the organization of Mr. Sarath (www.srilankantourguide.com) and when he offered us to spend two nights in her new Home Stay near Kandy we liked and accepted the offer.
The place is ideal to visit Kandy. The location is beautiful surrounded by nature with a fantastic landscape and very quiet, just 15 minutes drive from the center of Kandy.
The room was very clean and tidy and worthy of a top hotel, but the most interesting thing for a traveler staying at Mahakanda home stay is the opportunity to know a family to deepen the Sri Lankan culture. I was forgetting, the rice and curry which we have in the evening was just great!

Excellent Home Stay near Kandy

My husband and I travelled to the beautiful island of Sri Lanka in November 2014.
We were a bit hesitant pre booking a driver from abroad but after reading a number of good online reviews and exchanging a few emails with Sarath we soon became confident in our decision.
And we couldn't be happier with our choice. Sarath spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable and informative whilst guiding us through the cultural triangle. Not only is the culture unique but the country is rich in history too! The island has amazing wildlife, stunning landscapes and such happy, friendly people! Sarath was one of them, always donning a smile.

We stayed at his beautiful, clean and comfortable home stay in Kandy with the most picturesque views from the hilltops and 'the best curry I've ever had' (as quoted by hubby)!! 
Sarath and his family were very hospitable during our stay.

Most importantly Sarath transported us safely around the island, although I must admit we were quite nervous at first..the driving (in general) is nothing like we've ever seen before. So if you're reading this and considering hiring your own car, I strongly suggest you don't. Leave it to the local experts!
