We have timeshare with Cabana Beach Resort.  The resort was under renovation during the period of our stay so we swapped our week through RCI to stay at Umhlanga Sands Resort.  We had a lovely stay.  We stayed in a studio 4 sleeper on the 7th floor.  Rooms are newly renovated, with stunning ocean views.  Cannot comment on anything negative at the resort.  Hotel and restaurant staff are very friendly.  Various restaurant's to choose from within the resort.  Shops and restaurants are within walking distance.  Streets and beaches are clean and it is safe to take walks during the daytime and evenings.  Lots of activities during the day to keep children entertained.  Thanks for a lovely stay, we will return again :)

Great Family Holiday

I went to Umhlanga with my family for the week because it was  my grandmother's 80th birthday 🎂 🥳 and we saved timeshare. We had a great time. Nice staff and nice fellow guests and the weather was great. We had a beautiful beach view and offered nice activities and amenities. It was excellent 

80th Birthday Week

Amazing resort. The view is amazing. Perfect location. All the staff are helpful, friendly & welcoming. All your needs are seen to. Everything is clean. The entertainment is outstanding. Lovely place to relax & unwind. Rooms are comfortable & spacious however some of the furniture is chipping away so that could do with a bit of renovations. The spa is absolutely amazing. The staff at the spa are also amazing they treat you with so much of care.

The perfect getaway

I had not long arrived at Umhlanga Sands having flown in from Cape Town and I needed something to eat after getting checked into my apartment at the Resort.

 I headed down to Mugg & Bean which is very popular with the holiday makers at Umhlanga Sands and possibly also close by.

I ordered a Toasted Chicken and Mayo sandwich on brown bread.  This was served with a portion of chips.  I also ordered a glass of wine to enjoy with my late lunch.  

I really enjoyed the Toasted Sandwich it was devine.  I did return another day and ended up ordering the same thing!!   

Nice food served by very friendly staff I could not fault a thing.  Special mention to Priscilla she was a star, thank you!



GOOD PLACE FOR A NICE LIGHT MEAL

We are Timeshare owners at the next door Cabana Beach Resort where we unfortunately had a few unpleasant incidents during our previous visits with the last straw of such during our stay in June 2023.

Subject to that, we have decided to stay at the uMhlanga Sands Resort during our next uMhlanga holiday. 

We have not stayed at the uMhlanga Sands for more than 10 years but what a pleasant surprise we experienced, from arrival till departure, 7 nights later. 

This resort is definitely the most precious gem on the uMhlanga coastline. It is in a pristine condition with a variety of amenities which include 3 swimming pools, 3 restaurants, a cocktail bar, a new and state of the art lounge facility where drinks and food is served. The children's entertainment is safe and includes a Milky Lane, additional to the 3 restaurants. 

The three restaurants serve excellent food and drinks from early to late to the convenience of the hotel guests and there is also a little convenient store, open until 22:00 when you need to do some emergency purchase from its wide variety of stock.

The management team, all the resort staff as well as the restaurant staff were very friendly and assisting and went beyond and above to accommodate any needs throughout our stay.

Well done and thank you to the Sands' Team for an enjoyable stay at your resort.

uMhlanga Sands the best resort on the uMhlanga coastline

Royal treatment at its best! 

To sit next to the pool, children being entertained while you enjoy the view of the ocean! And then you just ask Mthobisi (fabulous waiter from m&b) to bring you a beer! What is better than to just lift your hand and a waiter standing next to you while it feels as if you are on the beach!

The beach is just a few steps away.

The hotels general manager, Anthony, is all over the place and making sure everyone is enjoying themselves. 

And then the entertainment team! Wow, wow, wow! Jacky, Knowledge, Donald, TK, Sipiwe etc! They are amazing! Not just for kids but for adults as well!

This is my home away from home! What a pleasure!

Fabulous service

Our 7 day vacation was interrupted with both our children (4 years old and one year old) getting sick.  The service from the hotel and housekeeping was so kind.  Housekeeping provided us with clean linen two very early mornings.  

I especially want to thank the hotel manager who went above and beyond expectations for us when my one year old got sick in the early morning hours.  We honor you for your excellent service.

All the restaurant staff was very welcoming and friendly.  The food was good.

The kids loved the kids zone.  The staff working there was so kind and gentle with the kids helping them with the creative activities provided.

Everything in the hotel was clean.  Their room cleaning services was also excellent.

The hotel renovations was a bit disruptive since we had to stay in the room while the kids were sick but the hotel personnel did offer to relocate us to a different room trying to accommodate us.

Definitely a family orientated hotel that we would visit again.

We have been returning to this establishment for several years and every year we are delighted to see the improvements made to keep the establishment current and maintaining its leading standard amongst this sort after upmarket coastal strip

Very cost effective price for a priceless view. Two bedroom two bathroom self catering best for a family of 4. Spacious lounge with balcony and kitchenette. Sleep with the view and sound of waves crashing. Best therapeutic sleep remedy ever.

Umhlanga Sands, Durban

I was there for a week in February for a break away with my daughter because my regular time-share was undergoing renovations.  I had read some reviews about Umhlanga Sands prior to my stay and was facing my trip with some trepidation.  I had prepared myself for disappointment by comparison.  I was truly pleasantly surprised.  Arrival and check-in was such a joy.  There were Valentine's cupcakes, music, drinks, popcorn, a real holiday vibe and happy faces all round at check-in.  Every single staff member from front desk to cleaning, maintenance and service staff were incredibly friendly throughout our stay.  We initially had issues with water leaking from the ceiling in the bathroom, the room phone not working and the TV literally being a decor item because it just didn't work (very broken/bad signal which made watching anything impossible).  I was also really annoyed to find our unit did not have a stove which meant we would have to eat out for all our meals (I had not been alerted to this fact). My first reaction:  The reviews were right, this is going to be a disappointing stay.  By the end of the week I couldn't care less about any of these things (yes, maintenance came with a friendly attitude and all the tools but they couldn't fix anything).  How trivial all this was at the end of the day.  It really ended up not mattering at all! The stay was magnificent and more than drowned out the trivial maintenance and cooking  challenges.  The entertainment was absolutely outstanding in Coco's and around the pool.  I liked the idea that residents would meet up time and again at games and evening events and many friends were made. (Neighbouring resorts - take note!!!!)  Service was outstanding throughout.  Location was superb.  The premises are immaculately maintained and truly beautiful with magnificent sea views.  So many restaurant options to choose from - and it was great that Cabana Beach and Umhlanga Resort restaurants could be used interchangeably and charged to the room account.  One of highlights of our stay was a trip to Greyville for a race day.  Our driver Laleh treated us like VIPs and made sure we were seated and happy before leaving us with assurance that he'd fetch us as soon as we called to say we were ready to leave.  Well done, Umhlanga Sands!!  I hope to be back some time in the future (and I'm usually a really difficult customer to please!!).
