Once a gem of hotel, this hotel doesn't live upto the expectation today.  Hope their service returns to the old days. I will recommend you not to book this hotel in case you have a better option than this one.

Not the same it used to be

Slovakia used to be the largest and finest hotel in Zilina. Currently it is in need of at least partial refurbishing, however the catering works well and the restaurant and    saloons, which capacity can be adjusted accordingly with the demands are perfectly fine for organization of family or company events. 

Once the best hotel in Zilina... 

USSR feeling inside. For the comfort you get it is too pricy. Would not recommend to anyone. Horrible even for a business trip alone. The owner should consider complete renovation or demolition of the building.

Is this the real life? ..

Motorbikers aren`t so concerned with luxury details after a hot day on the road. We booked in at the Slovakia Hotel one hot summer day in july. Check in took some time but we got 2 rooms with bath. No AC. The hotel looks really neglected and in desperate need for renovation. Rooms like the hotel in need of renovation, but quite clean. Bathroom with shower. no amenities but towels.  A small breakfast provided.
still it served the basic needs for us. The location is great and close to the old town. If you`re looking for more service, modern rooms and a just a little touch of luxury, stay away.

Old and neglected

This hotel probably had a lot of grandeur in the 1970s, but has lost all of it ever since. Except for adding a tv in what was probably in the 1990s, little has changed. The hotel made me think of Hotel Yugoslavia in Belgrade: great and probably luxe in times far behind. The rooms are small, outdated and in need of renovation. The mattresses are like a wooden plank, the pillows are so thin they barely have a function. The breakfast was okayish. The staff was slow and didn't seem interested. The location is good though and it has free parking.

If you want to experience 1970s Slovakia: this hotel is great for you.

1970s Slovakia

It's a very old "hotel" with very old furniture. When it's cold outside is also cold in your room, because the windows don 't close well. It was about 10 degrees outside, only a little more in the room.

It's a shame because the location of the hotel is great.
But it was worst accommodation in my life. Never again.

I don 't recommend even for one night.

The worst accommodation in Žilina

I had my reservation done and got my journey planned including the train ticket paid. In the afternoon, I was contacted by the reception and been arrogantly told, if I am not able to check in by 21:30 then she expects me to cancel my reservation. ... woow ...
No willingness to even find any solution. (I could be there by 22:00, my journey depended on the train over 200 km .)
The receptionist had no manners and spoke with such an arrogant attitude.
The poorest customer service ever! Stay away from this hotel.

Terrible , arrogant behaviour by the reception.

Whole building and all equipment approx. 50 years old (for real) and dingy/heavily used/partially broken/broken. Obsolete TV with only 3 chanells (one of them without sound). Personell didn’t care about our presence at all. Breakfast eatable, but way below today’s standards. However position in the city center is good, bathroom was relatively clean with several fresh towels and warm water. Resumé: Not recommended, but it is acceptable emergency choice for one/two night stay when no other option is available at this price level.

Terrible, obsolete & neglected

Very old style hotel. We spent here 5 days with our little daughter. We asked a cot but we did not get it. There was no cleaning for 5 days!!! We took out the trash. We complained at the reception. Nothing happened. Horrible. 

I do not recommend 

They were not cleaning the room at all, despite of several requests! We asked the maid directly, but she denied to get in and clean. We spent 4 nights there with a 1yo baby so i had to take down the trash daily! 

Last day i had to use our own toilet paper because we got none from the hotel.

Insane!
