Grand Hotel Belorusskaya

I absolutely love this hotel! I had a day and a half in Moscow before a night train from Belorusskaya station, so I got this room. It was a bit hard for the Yandex driver to find, but eventually he was able to get to the entrance after asking around a bit. The entrance is through a sort of shopping center next to a couple of pubs and bars, so it isn't super obvious from the street. The decor is extremely 1990s Russia- gaudy to no end, and I loved the crazy character of it all. The room was large, very comfortable, with a nice couch as well as a big bed, and the shower looked like a space machine from a 1950s movie (and worked great, most importantly!) The staff is very nice. Remember, this is Russia. You aren't going to get a welcome ceremony. But they were still all very helpful and nice. Breakfast is huge, with something to please everyone. I checked out of my room at about 11 am and left my luggage with the receptionist. After walking around most of the afternoon, I started to feel like I was getting a migraine. I asked the hotel staff if I could get a room from about 5 pm to 9 pm, leaving right before my train. They said they unfortunately could not charge less than a day's rate. When I said to just give me a room at the full rate anyway, because I really did not want to take an overnight train while being sick, the receptionist was nice enough to find me one with a decent discount, since it was one of the little single bed rooms up on the top floor (where the elevator doesn't work for the last flight of stairs).
