I dont know, if "downtown" is applicable to Bratsk, but I think in this particular place, hotel location is not so important.
The only one regarding location I'd like to mension is that it is close to river bank (15 mins walking) as well as to major restaurants/nightlife places.
Hotel rooms are good enough for this kind of hotels - small but cosy.
Breakfast is a la carte only but one of the best I've ever had in the hotels. This is really something special. Hrdly reccomend to stay in the hotel just because of this.

Nice 3-star hotel in Syberia

We stayed 4 August nights at the Taiga. The room was perfectly OK, tidy and clean. The bathroom had a bit strange layout, but was modern and clean. The receptionists speak English, some good – the others good enough. The breakfast is good, not buffet – you order from a set menu, the waitress understands enough English to make it work. Rooms with view to the front can be a bit noisy, as the square in front is used for some partying. Our room was warm, but these where warm summer days. The elevators are a bit on the scary side, enter quickly – else the door will slam shut in you face. The lobby is beautiful and has an ATM. Over all, a positive experience.

Wedding in Bratsk

Recently stayed at the taiga for a 7 night business trip. The rooms are average but clean which is strange really considering the spectacular hallways and staircases, very odd. The beer is OK as is the food and the Cafe is really good. All things considered I've no complaints and am due back there in a couple of weeks.

Brask Breakfast and Business

Stayed one night in this hotel during my business trip to Siberia. Arrived very late, 11.30pm and wanted to have late snack in the bar, since the restaurant was already closed. Surprisingly the bar did not have anything to offer, only potato chips and nuts. So it was not possible to eat anything even though the bar is open until the last client leaves. The room was ok with some renovation done lately. I stayed in this hotel for the first time in 1986 during the Soviet time and of course there was a huge change to the better. The lifts were though the same awful ones as over 20 years ago, if you do not enter the lift within 3 seconds, the door closes in before your nose, so please be careful. In the morning it is much better to use the stairs, if you do not want to wait at least 10 min. The breakfast was a Soviet style as well. There was one waitress with no English serving for more than 20 people. You have two choices and tea. Coffee cost extra!
It is pretty tough to understand, when you pay $ 120 for your room. The best part of this hotel is the lobby area and comfortable beds. I would still recommend this hotel to anyone going on business or leusure to Bratsk, because the other hotel called Hotel Bratsk is by far worse.
Overall I would give 3 stars to Hotel Taiga, which is ok for Siberia.
One more tip, please check your room before accepting, because for non-smokers like me can not stand the smell of cigarettes. Unfortunately most hotels in Russia do not have non-smoking rooms, which is disgusting.

Business trip to Bratsk, Siberia, Russia

I am staying in the Hotel Taiga, and have been for three weeks from 19.01.11 through 16.02.11 the rooms are slightly above average with very comfortable beds and very clean the baths have been refurbish in the not too distant past so they are nice if not a little too much in the way of towel racks and soap holders and such. The food in the Restaurants s and bar is very good with an International menu. You learn the presentation differences of the chefs each has their own style, I have found that the staff which is very friendly and helpful has several English speaking employees both at reception desk and Bar and Restaurants. The Restaurants on the second floor features singing and music and can get quite a crowd some nights, the girls that sing are lots of fun with one that  speaks English very well (Juliette) she will assist the you and the staff if she sees you are having trouble. As one of the reviews below stated  Yes I have notice a few prostitutes in the Bar area but it is not full of them besides they are very beautiful and do not bother you unless you are wanting them too. I have noticed most of the women in Russia dress very Fashionable when they go out so I believe whoever wrote that review could have been mistaking and saying all fashionably dress women were prostitutes. .
