We had a delightful stay in October of 2021. Luckily we were in touch with our host (Valentina) before driving from Cluj. She warned us that the road we had intended to take was not driveable with our little rental car, and recommended an alternative route. This was greatly appreciated. 

Padis is absolutely stunning in October due to the autumn foliage. Our room was adorable and warm. Our host was very helpful in recommending hikes in the area. 

Because we were there in the off-season, all the other restaurants were closed. We enjoyed our breakfasts and dinners at Bradet very much. We would absolutely come back. We thought our stay was superb value for the cost.

Lovely Stay, Friendly Staff

Located in Padis, the place is great as a base for trekking. We stayed for 6 nights and paid 60 lei per night to sleep I a barrel with two single beds and electricity. Toilet on location and access to hot showers, which is a rare luxury in the mountains. Don't expect a 3 star hotel, but a friendly down to earth staff and great value for the money, considered that you're far from civilization. 
The only downside was the other guests. For three nights, a Romanian youth organization with 40 noisy teenagers stayed there, and another night a group of young Romanian guys were up drinking and playing loud music all night. 
But all in all a very nice place.

We got to sleep in a Barrel-house! 

We just spent there 3 nights while visiting the natural park. There is almost no other choice in town. Yes, the rooms are a bit overpriced for what you get (145 lei per night for a triple), yes it is dirty and the furniture is broken, yes the towels look like grandma's old towels including holes in it, yes the food choice is poor and the taste too, yes the personnel is kind if rude BUT the location is perfect, the nature amazing and we felt very accepted with the kids. Also, the cabana itself is kind of well kept. So all in all, the beauty of the park justifies staying at the cabana.

No other choice

It's just Ok, really! Our triple room was ok... Too hot but better than cold given the temperature outside. Bathrooms and toilets are shared but clean (probably also because we were the only ones on that floor). The food was ok as well but had to wait a bit as another large group took centre stage. The hosts were polite and helpful .... All in all just ok! The other places didn't look much better but we didn't really checked them out properly. We will camp if coming back one day.... Best if you go hiking!

Not great but doesn't look like you have much choice in Padis!

Unbeknownst to me I was put in the Harry Potter room. The cupboard under the stairs. This is a room that Harry was put in as punishment yet I was actually way overcharged to stay here. It was worth about 25 lei but I paid twice that. I was on a tight budget and had they told me before that stampedes of elephants would be walking over my head all day and night, I would have paid the extra 10 lei for the ensuite room at the end of the hall instead of the windowless hole that at first had issues with the light switch staying on then later the bulb blew. When I complained the woman got angry and yelled at me saying the other room was now occupied and she would give me my money back. Unfortunately at this point it was late in the day on a Saturday in the summer and everything was booked so I had no choice but to stay there. The Internet only works in the restaurant area. The restaurant food is mediocre at best and over priced at that. The bathrooms for the restaurant are quite nice but the ones for the rooms are tiny and awful. Avoid at all costs.

You're better off sleeping in a tent

An unhealthy cottage, with primitive staff, which survives for the simple reason that there are not many accommodation options in Padis. I rarely have the mood to stay in a tent, the lack of a bathroom is a major inconvenience, as there is no official  campsite in the area.
To describe the last experience at Brădet.
Lunch: I had the classic pork neck with french fries, not to demand too much from the cook's talent. The meat was on the verge of spoiling, and the potatoes looked frozen, or reheated from the day before. 1 neck with 2 servings of potatoes and 2 soups (the only edibles), plus a small Sprite and a small mineral water, 89 lei. Expensive for the village and execrable.
Room: since we entered we smelled sewage in the bathroom, but we were told it was the only one available. The bathroom had a fan, I turned it on and went on a route, hoping it would be better when we will return. But the smell intensified, the fan may have absorbed more stench from the pipes. We washed quickly, forcibly, and closed the bathroom door, putting a wet towel over the drain. It didn't help, overnight the smell became unbearable, both my wife and I woke up, we opened the window, which opened only oscillatingly, not completely, so as not to die asphyxiated, it was cold outside, but the smell was not at least diminished. Room price 200 lei, mind-boggling for a torture chamber.
That none of the staff of the boarding house wore a mask, not even under the nose, even though the receptionist was coughing up like TB (or Covid19?) and told my wife that she did not sleep because her child had a fever at night, there are already details. The stench in which I slept / lay suffocated in bed one night surpassed any virus.
We ran the next day. No possibility for card payment, obviously. No receipt.

Only for masochists!

The hotel is very expensive and has low quality rooms, the personal didn't care much about the guests. We had to wait almost 2 hours to get our rooms because they first cleaned everthing else and left the rooms last. The breakfast had always the same price but contained sometimes more sometines less food. Overall I would not go there a second time.
