Our team came to Phillipine in beginning of April. We chose Balai Felicisima Bed & Breakfast in Puerto Princesa by checking the comments about this place. And It turned out that  we choose the right place. 😊😊. This homestay was really nice. We enjoyed the quite place with clean room and lots of flowers and singing birds in the morning. The owner and staff welcame us with a warm hospitality. They usually smiled with us and make us feel happy. 
Balai Felicisima is one of the outstandings in my trip in Philippine. We will come back again in next year 😀😃😃. 

Balai Felicisima Bed & Breakfast

This was my second time to stay in Balai Felicisima, and both were amazing! 

The rooms were spacious and tidy. The interior gave a home-like ambiance. The toilet was clean, installed with water heater. My room had a good wifi signal.

The breakfast was also superb! I enjoyed eating a variety of Palawan's local specialties (Lamayo and Longanissa).

The area felt safe, and the garden outside the rooms added a serene ambiance to the place. 

My friends and I didn't encounter any problem with the transportation as they provided an airport transfer, exclusive van transport; back and forth to El Nido Island and Underground River. 

Location is great, close by all the good restaurants, Cathedral, markets, Gov't offices, and other tourists spots. 

Our stay was short (3 days, 2 nights) but big thanks to Balai Felicisima staff - Ms. Nida and Wonderful Getaways Travel Agency for arranging our tours, being so flexible with all of our requests, and for being hospitable and accommodation during our stay. 

The exclusive tours and transportation is worth it! I highly recommend Balai Felicisima Bed & Breakfast to families, couples, friends, and solo travelers who want to visit Puerto Princesa, Palawan!

Best Bed & Breakfast in Palawan

We stayed here only for a day. We just need a place to sleep before our flight early in the morning after we went back from El Nido. We got so tired that we were unable to explore Puerto Princesa in our spare time. I wasn’t expecting anything on this place. I mean, we were a group of 4, and we only payed 1700php, with air-conditioned room and free breakfast, so what should we ask for? 

But we were really lucky because it is more than a decent room, aside from the television, they have a huge bathroom, and a heater, they also provided us a towel that we can use on our stay. They also provided us a lot of delivery pamphlets so we can order our food without a hassle. 

The best thing that I appreciate to Balai Felicisima was their great service. Having an elderly who accommodates us is somewhat amazing. Like a grandmother who cares for her grand child who had a vacation at home. 

I’m also very thankful to the hotel staff for granting our request to take out our breakfast because we have an early flight. Without their pack breakfast, we would’ve starve ourselves the whole time. I really appreciate that. Thank you Balai Felicisima! 💜

P.S. The hotel is only 5mins away from airport but they still maintain the peacefulness of the place, and that’s the best part of it. 

Unexpectedly Beautiful

We stayed at Balai Felicisima June 2018 for 3 nights. My friends and I are usually cool with any place as long as the price is right. Knowing this hotel to be a budget bed & breakfast we of course knew ahead what to expect.

Upon entering our room, I was very happy with it. It was even more than I expected - the space was bigger than I thought for the value price, beds were comfortable, sheets were very clean... in general the rooms were in very good taste, I instantly loved it! One thing I definitely noticed was it was VERY CLEAN, including the bathroom. Didn't matter if we had an ordinary closet and wire hangers... the place was so well-kempt and quite charming... totally "homey."

However, came the first night and the AC suddenly stopped working. We couldn't tell anyone then because it was late and of course front desk staff was already sleeping. We could literally hear water trickling and ice from the AC unit, so we were pretty sure there was something wrong with it. It was so hot (outside was cooler, but we couldn't open the windows as it wasn't safe to do so anyway), that we knocked on our companion's rooms (we paid for separate rooms) in the middle of the night asking if we could stay in.

The next day we informed the lady manager (she is so nice and friendly), she said they will take a look at it while we are around. Thing is we had to leave for the package tour. We also thought, well in the morning when we turned it on the AC it was blowing cool air again so I guess maybe we can now stay in our own rooms later in the evening.

When we returned from the tour, we turned on the AC and it was working until about 10:30-11PM. It started getting very, very hot, just like the first night. I thought I could sleep through it but my companion eventually woke up past midnight (around 2AM) to knock at our friends' room to ask if we could stay the night again.

The next day we had to bring it up again and asked if it is possible to just have us transferred to another room. They said they were full so we understood that. However, we asked for a refund because essentially we were already sharing rooms with our other friends (probably to their inconvenience). Maybe we didn't elaborate as much that we would only ask for a partial refund because the lady was super nice to us and we felt sorry for her because she was doing a lot of the works around the hotel. She said they can't give a refund but they will record the incident. We simply said okay.. because what can we do and it would be our last stay the next day.

We did inform this time that they can just enter our room while we're out on tour as we will just have our luggage locked up.

Lo and behold, when we arrived back from the tour the AC unit stayed cold for quite a long time. However, not wanting to risk it and wake our friends again in the middle of the night, we decided to inform them we will go straight into their room while it's still early. We just didn't want to risk not being able to get enough sleep again as we had another early tour the next day.

I forgot to mention the shower heater also started to work suddenly the day the AC was working. The first 2 days I just assumed the shower heater is old and maybe for the price, the shower is just super cold like that. Well, I guess, I would like to thank whoever fixed the AC and shower heater in secret? 

I just hope the superiors or head management can take this as feedback to improve. We felt as though we had to prove the AC wasn't working but couldn't... pretty bad experience for us (that was the only bad part, the rest was good). I mean, if we wanted a no-AC room for PHP600 a night we could have gotten one. A working AC is so important esp if it is indicated online etc.

My suggestion would be for you guys to maybe have contacts with on-call maintenance guys who can check broken ACs or water heaters and they can sign a waiver to detail what is wrong... as proof to management that the guest isn't making it up. Then you can use that as a basis for refund.

I would give a 5/5 if only it weren't for this very important thing that was missed and if we were able to get a refund even just a small portion of our full payment. Aside from that, 2 best things about Balai.... FIRSTLY, your FD staff and cook - they are the BEST. I love them! They are so friendly and accommodating despite our complaints (I couldn't get mad at them at all). SECONDLY, the place is very clean, please keep it up!

Just.. just the AC please. It should be one of your top priorities :(

The area outside rooms are well-maintained. Rooms are not equally maintained as our room was a bit disappointing. Yes, it was clean but has some anay starting to occupy the bathroom wall. No shower curtain, insufficient and defective electrical sockets (our room has only 1 working socket). Has some mosquitoes and insects inside the room. Poor water supply on the bathroom lavatory. No clothes hanger or a table wherein you can put your bags. No wifi inside rooms just at the common area only.

Overall: Okay place

I would rate ate Neda's service excellent, she is wonderful, and same with the other ate who cooked for us every morning. I would rate both of them 5/5 stars.

However, I will direct my poor rating solely to the owner. Your staff clearly cannot do anything about our air conditioner in Room 2 because their hands are tied, I strongly feel the owner is holding on to money and leeching off of customers. My sister and I slept in our friend's room because our a/c was faulty, we had to disturb them at 2am. It stays cool for 5 hours then becomes very hot because it accumulates ice, we have to turn it off for it to melt for it to work again. We asked for at least 50% refund for not sleeping in our room for 3 nights straight but clearly the owner would not allow it. 

Also, the staff are elderly, they are coordinators, receptionsists, cooks and cleaners from 6am to 9pm, that is 15 hours a day, 7 days a week. And there are only 2 of them which is why we tipped them big.

The owners should hire at least 1 young assistant for them. I am betting my house that the owner is extremely stingy at the expense of their customers. The staff are clearly not well taken care of. 

Do not go to this place unless they improve on Room maintenance and especially taking care of their staff. 

And do not avail of Room #2.
