F1 Hostels Peru

I'll admit, I wrestled back and forth on booking this place. Just last month I stayed at the Waldorf in Rome with a balcony view. Needless to say, my tastes in lodging are a little more refined than hostels as a 30-something. But, I needed to save some hotel points for a future trip and I was traveling solo. (Wouldn't recommend a stay for more than 2 people) So I bit the bullet and hoped for the best. I must say, I couldn't have been happier with my decision. This is NOT a hotel. You will get a large room with a small shower and a private bathroom. When you leave to explore, the key stays at the front desk. The gentlemen running the hostel could not have been nicer. He doesn't speak a word of English and my Spanish is very rusty. We got by just fine with our limited speaking skills and Google translate. He even offered to store my luggage at his place, free of charge, while I took a few days to go out to Machu Picchu. I'm not sure if he ever sleeps because he was there smiling at any hour that I needed him. The location is excellent. It's a quiet street within walking distance of all the sites you will want to see in Miraflores but feels like it's hidden with low foot traffic. I never once felt unsafe. There are a few restaurants nearby as well as some casinos. The internet is a little sketchy. When you find the right spot in your room, it's excellent. When you move around, you may have speed issues due to the range. There's a mini fridge in the room. Breakfast is not included, but there is a kitchen downstairs where tea and coffee are offered. I didn't use it, nor did I use the pool right outside. But both looked well kept. Service was great. My bed was made and toiletries were restocked consistently. Was always met with a smile by the staff. There is a snack machine where you can buy snacks or drinks such as cold bottled water or sports drinks for a reasonable price. If you do not need all the bells and whistles, and can be at peace with that decision, this is a great lodging option. While I still prefer the convenience of hotels, I would not hesitate to book this place again. Think of it as a great menu item at Taco Bell: It's still fast food, but it did the job and provided a great value.
