Mamallena Eco Lodge

We stayed in the Eco Lodge for two days, and wish it was more. It's a perfect place to chill, hang in a hammock, do some yoga and take it slow. We are outdoorsy, so we chose a hillside cabin. No glass windows, just a large opening to the outside, we absolutely loved it. It's like sleeping outside, but with your own shower and bathroom. Yes, you'll have to put the used TP in a basket, which is not unusual in off-the-beaten-path places, but apparently a surprise to some people who are more of the Hilton crowd (judging by some rare surprising non 5-star reviews here). In February, the dry season, the were zero bugs around, which was a very nice surprise for us. On our hikes we were joined by "dos compañeros". The dogs from the lodge will join you for the full trip, so treat that as a bonus rent-a-dog that's actually free of charge. Perfect, if you miss your own pooch. For the waterfall hike, MapsMe has the waterfall marked, and it helped us locate it. We also hiked the ridge opposite the lodge,. Even though dos compañeros have ditched us part way through, the smile of the farmer was more than an adequate reward for the $1 p/person fee for the access to private cow paths on the hill. We wish we stayed longer to explore Anton valley, which is only 20 min away. Make sure you cross verify it via different mapping services as some would send you on longer roundabout trip.
