Mesnabakken pensjonat

I love staying here in this beautiful part of Norway. Great spaces, quiet location, wonderful staff. In the winter you can sit back in front of the fire and watch the snow settle all around. In the summer, walk down to the lake and try a spot of fishing. 

I got the feeling the very moment we drove through the beautiful wrought iron gate that "I could live here!" In fact, I wanted to volunteer to stay and work there for free the whole summer just to be able to be there. If only I could :-)
The room we got was very simple, with two single beds and a sink. The WC was in the hallway. But the beds were wonderful to sleep in and the pillows and down comforter were just heavenly - better than the ones we have at home!
You don't come for physical luxury in a place like this. You come for mental luxury. And that's exactly what you get.

Invited to a technical conference in Norway, I was surprised our hosts chose this rustic horse farm a 20 minute drive from Lillehammer. My room was in a converted barn with no toilet or shower. Our next day's lunch was scheduled to be outdoors, by the lake. 
My heart sank ... But was I wrong! 
Although the temperatures never climbed above, or even approached, freezing, my room was delightfully comfortable and warm, a short walk, surprisingly pleasant walk to the clean well maintained facilities. Our meetings where in a room above the barn with solid wifi and one of the best projectors and screens I've ever used.
All the food was excellent, but our lunch outdoors by the lake and dinner in a dinning hall above the barn standouts. I'm vegetarian but had plenty to eat beside the fresh elk served for lunch, and with the fire and warm coffee, skin covered hale bales were as warm and comfortable as any restaurant. Our dinner exceeded msot stuffy city restaurants. Local game for most and a fine vegetarian choice for me. The desert of Crème brûlée was the best I've ever had. 
My only regret was not enough snow for X-Country skiing, which looked like it would be amazing! (And that was proven watching the movie "The Last King" on the way home, which was partially filmed at Mesnabakken!)

Very quite and charmed place that is perfect for groups who want a place away from the busy everyday life. Perfect for outdoor activites. An affordable and pleasant alternative with homely style and friendly staff. Øyvind Hagen

The perfect Hideaway!

We came here to experience our ultimate white Christmas .. and it exceeded our expectation. The  scenery from this house is amazing. Looking downhill with snow forest.
Inside, it's a equipped country house settings with fireplace and a electric cooker. 

We hired the whole second house. Annex, its cosy and lovely.
The only issue we have is that the guesthouse only has one toilet to share with 4 double rooms of guest.

From Oslo airport to the guesthouse takes about 2hours or abit less to drive. Lillehammer will be the closest village and its 25mins drive and then you have one beautiful ski resort , Sjusjoen.
