Tamara Riverside Lodge - Hostel/Backpacker

Our private room was very big and cozy, the kitchen had nice and clean equipment, which we really apreciated. The showers were pleasant and hot. We had a nice talk with the owners who gave us a lot of tips on what to see and do in the area.
Wish we would have stayed longer than just one night!

I stayed here for 3 nights as a solo travel and I can't praise the Lodge enough. I was welcomed like a returning visitor even though it was my first visit. My room was most comfortable, not en suite but toilet and shower were next door. Everywhere was spotless, kichen had lots of pot, pans, crockery and cutlery. Ample tables and chairs in the dining room. The lounge complete with TV had good sofas and armchairs making it a nice restful environment.Outside there are pleasant gardens with seating areas. Not much in the way of on site car parking but lots on the road at the front.

If I visit Wnaganui again this is where I'll stay. EXCELLENT!!!

Very warm and personal welcome. Tamara Backpacker lodge has a very pleasant atmosphere because its run by someone who actually cares about the place and the wellbeing of the guests! Its NOT just some anonymous low-cost place to crash for the night. Dorm rooms are tidy and spacious. Definitely one of the nicest hostels I've stayed in!

I spent 3 nights at Tamara Lodge, and I wished I'd stayed longer!

The lodge is beautiful with a lot of shared spaces (lounges, TV room, wonderful garden). The kitchen is very well equipped and spacious. 

I was in a 4 bed room and it was comfortable, good mattress, and very well maintained, and opened out onto the garden which is a great place to relax.

We like to have our own bathroom, so requested an ensuite room out the back. The room had everything we needed for the night, the staff are welcoming and the atmosphere friendly. The lodge itself seemed a little run-down, but the prices reflected this.

Love this place especially on their hospitality and services.
Location is great as it's near the town with great atmosphere of the river.
Parking is bit challenging as there are only available for 3 cars but we can park in front of the lodge.

The lodge is beautiful and the scenery is captivating, especially in the river view rooms. Unfortunately the lodge is in need of some updating as the door handles were very wobbly and i worried that they would come off in my hands. The light in the bathroom didn't work and the lock was very stiff. Lights in the room were inadequate and there was only one plug socket for a room meant for three people, and that socket was needed for the light and the heater. There was also something weird going on but I couldn't work out what it was. Despite saying this, the location is fantastic, the staff were really kind and helpful, and the facilities are great.
